Thread Details

Sears.com [sears.com] has (11/22) 50'' Toshiba 50L2200U 1080p LED HDTV for $299.99 on November 23rd (BLACK FRIDAY).

Additional info:

Description: We have barely seen any 50" LED HDTV's for $500, so this $300 price tag is slick! The TV does not have WiFi or Apps, or many HDMI inputs but for $300, it does not need to. What you will get is a very good TV at an unbeatable price.
Manufacturer: Toshiba
Model: 50L2200U

Right thing as eat expensive shipping costs to you and back if Discover wont reimburse you for a very limited loss leader sold by Sears?

Confused
Well, the CSR said they take each case on a case by case basis, taking into account how long you have been an Amazon customer, Prime member, and how often you have returned items to Amazon in the past. Since I buy a crap load of stuff off Amazon, am a Prime member, and I can't think of anything I have ever returned to Amazon...I would think they would do me right. Big Grin

The part about the Discover reimbursement on a Sears black friday deal has nothing to do with Amazon.

You have some reading to do. Plus, you are way late for the party!
Hmmm I have been reading, just got confused. I already ordered the TV last Tuesday, delivered today. Can you please just help me out? Smilie

Sorry. I assumed you were just now trying to get in on this deal. If you bought the TV with your Discover card you need to call Discover and tell them you want to speak with the Price Protection department. Ask them to send you a Price Protection form. They will have to snail mail it to you. Don't think anyone has received this form yet, so it is still not totally clear what is needed to send back along with the form. Pretty sure you will need a printout of the receipt from the place you bought the TV showing the date purchased and price paid, a printout of the Sears Black Friday ad showing the price and model # of the TV (check back in this thread a few pages for a printable file of the ad), and possibly a printout of the Discover transaction from the Discover website.

Also nobody is 100% sure that this deal will be Price Protected by Discover because of it being a Sears Black Friday deal. Most everyone has been told that it will be covered but we will not know for sure until the checks are actually sent (it is believed Discover will send an actual check instead of crediting your Discover account). So now everyone is just waiting to receive the form, then to send it back with the required paperwork, and hope for the best.

That should catch you up. Feel free to ask any additional questions.

Yeah, okay. This is where i get lost. When i put in the item # on the ad into the Sears website, it gives me the Panasonic Viera. So how are we supposed to price match it to the Toshiba?

You don't need to worry about finding the TV on the Sears website. They are sold out and I guess have removed it from the website. You are asking Discover to match the Sears Black Friday deal from last week. Go back to post #677 in this thread from one page back from worldwave. He has posted a pdf file of the Sears Black Friday ad with the Toshiba deal that you can print. You will use that to send to Discover, along with whatever else the form from Discover asks for.

I got the claim form couple of days ago, sent the documents today. You need purchase proof (receipt/ invoice), sale advertisement showing model number and discover statement.

You can fill up to 3 claims per claim form.

When did you call your claim in?

Also, does the claim form seem generic? Any chance you have have a copy of the blank claim form so we can get a head start on it?

Did you send in a complete Discover statement with the TV transaction included or just a printout of the transaction for the TV by itself? I have printed out the transaction for only the TV showing the amount and date and assume this would be OK to send in.

I called on 19th (I purchased on 14th). The claim form has a claim number (I think specific to the case), so you may need to call in and get a form. I don't have a copy of the form, sorry. Its just a simple form to fill, took me just 10 mins.

I sent full statement. (My statement came on 19th itself, so no worries). You have to send a statement with your account number showing. You don't have to wait till the statement become available. Select 'Save as PDF' option for current activity and you're good to go. (It doesn't show account number, but name and address is there, so I think that's good enough.)

Current TV settings

Try these and tell me if you've found better. I found the color to be a bit overblown, especially on reds, and had to make some adjustments.

Contrast 50
Backlight 60
Dynalight Off
Brightness 57
Color 45
Tint 0
Sharpness 0
Dynamic Contrast Off
Static Gamma 0
Color Temperature Medium
Cinema Mode Film

DNR both set to OFF

Most settings I've found online had backlight at 100, with minimum recommended at 44. 44 is getting too dark, and 100 punches energy usage up to over 100W. I found the slight increase from default at 50 to 60 looked best on my set and balanced out the energy usage. Played with that a LOT, and honestly the difference between 50 to 100 is not really huge, except in energy use, but I did like it just a bit higher than the 50 default.

Color was just stupid bright on pinks and reds, so much so you were losing detail. I've taken it down as far as 40 and finally settled on 45. The reds and pinks can still be a bit "in your face", but then again, it's a big screen. It still looks good, bright color at 45 but keeps from completely blowing those out which it seemed to be doing at 50 (gf commented how orange faces looked on SOME channels / shows and the 45 tones that down just a bit too).

Give them a try and see what you think and give some feedback.

Can someone please confirm if this TV will work with both 110v and 220v, like most laptops? I guess it will be mentioned somewhere on the power supply cord. TIA.

I sent my form in yesterday. They specifically ask for a copy of the statement showing the FULL account number, which isn't available from Discover (they only show the last 4 digits).

I hope they don't use that to reject the claim. Hopefully I've got a $350 refund on the way.

It's been really hard not to open the box, it's been sitting in my living room for a week now...

I just called discover and the price protection division to verify that a statements showing only the last four digits of the card # were O.K. The first rep told me it had to show the full credit card number. I told her they don't print the full # and she said I still needed it. So I called Discover back again and they called another rep at the Claims center who verified that the statement showing only the last four digits was sufficient. She seemed to have a more superior position and verified what the other rep told me was wrong. Lots of confusion between the claims center and discover!
