Sears has the Craftsman 309 pc. Mechanic's Tool Set [sears.com] on sale for $199.99 (Reg $399.99)

Additionaly, there is an extra 10% off online through 11/13, making the price $179.99.

Add $20.01 in filler items (more tools!) and use coupon SAVEONTOOLS ($10 Off $75, $15 Off $100, $35 Off $200 or $60 Off Orders of $300 or More) for $35 off $200, making the total just $164.99 + tax.

Da-yum ... now I'm torn between this or the Kobalt 227-piece set for $80 or $90 + tax on BF (using a Lowe's 10% or Harbor Freight 20% off coupon, depending on whether or not Lowe's takes my HF coupons on Black Friday).

More tools and included ratcheting open end wrenches would nice. But the Kobalt ratchets themselves are much nicer quality (72-tooth versus 36-tooth).

And of course, there's always the fact that my 150-something piece Craftsman set from 15 years ago still serves all my needs just fine, and I don't NEED more tools. I just WANT more tools. Big Grin

Im in the same boat. Don't really need these, but it's always good to have MORE tools. Does this come with a case like the Kobalt 227 set?

I got this set last time around. For all the hyped up "made in USA is best", ehhh, its ok, nothing about any of the pieces really stand out as super high quality compared with the kobalt, husky, crescent made in asia stuff I own. Ratchets are meh as well. I do like the selection it provides and coupled with the HF composite ratchet set I got, it makes a really comprehensive set. Id probably give the 227 kobalt set a look over again and try to get in on the sears BF gearwrench flex-head ratcheting box wrench.

EDIT: No case, a box filled with bags of tools that you should check to make sure nothing is missing (I had double mini wrenches in mine while missing 1 size)

I own this exact set, I bought it about 6 months ago for the same price. It is the best value. because it comes with the ratcheting wrenches. No case. None of my pieces were missing, but one socket was stamped on the wrong side.

And seeing as it was my father who gave me my current mechanics set nearly 13 years ago, it's nothing something I'd ever sell to offset the cost of a trade up - too much sentimental value. But it sure seems silly to have two complete mechanics sets.

But I WANT 'em. Stick Out Tongue

Added a 10pc metric impact set for $19.99 and now the total is $179.98. Can't complain. It's an Evolv set. Just got an impact gun and going to use it for tire changes and brakes for personal use. Are Evolv that bad that they'll break on first use or for a few times a year are they good?
