What do you mean how does it compare? They're the same spec-wise (assuming you meant 1TB, not 1GB). However, a lot of people (myself included) tend to say WD is better quality, especially when you're talking about the Black series.

I use this as my main drive along with a small Samsung 830 SSD for Intel Smart Response SSD caching. I originally purchased 2 from Newegg in August of 2010, 1 of 2 failed after only light use. WD took care of it under warranty and sent me a WD1502FAEX which is the 1.5TB version. I just recently sold that drive unopened on ebay for $125 after it sat in my closet for a year. I would imagine these are pre-flood Malaysia drives? I could be wrong.

Thanks OP, got 3! These are great drives I just bought one a few days ago from Best Buy to replace a Seagate 7200.12 drive that failed within a week of replacing a failed Seagate 7200.11 drive!!! The 7200.12 was making a beeping noise (beep of death) and it had a stiction problem which I was able to fix in a make shift clean room and got 100% of my data back!! I'm now 2 for 2 in fixing stiction failed drives!

I bought 6 7200.11 drives and 3 have failed so far. STAY AWAY FROM SEAGATE!

I bought this drive 2 months ago for $60 from Microcenter (I had a gift card). It definitely served my needs for having a ssd as the boot drive and all applications, programs, and games on the 1tb black drive. Worth It.

Just be VERY careful with this model drives and ALWAYS do a sector scan with WD tools when you get the drive. Bought two of these drives from NewEgg and BOTH failed to install windows and thus ran the WD tools, which said that there are too many bad sectors to continue, so done an RMA and got two more -- same thing, both drives failed WD sector scan. 4 out of 4 drives DOA. Looked like a bad batch because went to MicroCenter and bought the same drive and it works well.

NOTE: Heard that WD has been sending out refurbs when people asked for warranty replacements...

could it be that since its a bare drive they dont package it right? i remenber some time ago both newegg and amazon use skimp on the packaging, sometimes they just would put the drive in a box with no bubble wrap at all!!.Have they fiexd the issue?
