Luckily I am able to receive shipments at my place of employment and never had any issues with stuff getting broken delivered here. At home I have had a clearly marked Onkyo box tossed over a seven foot fence onto the concrete surface of my backyard. A buddy of mine once told me that most shit gets tossed around and broken on the final ride to the delivery destination. |

Well since you can sell the old Sony speakers for some cash it isn't really a $450 upgrade. I do however agree that from where you started this is a miniscule upgrade and not worth it unless you are in love with the Polks. I think people here get a little too amped up about a deal and don't really comparison shop. I'm not saying these Polks aren't a great deal for the price, but they are nowhere near audiophile speakers and peoples expectations should be tempered. I'd bet most of the people giving these the best reviews have very little experience with good speakers. I think they sound like garbage, but then again I have much more expensive equipment so that is relative. What they are good at is providing a lot of clean volume for little cash, but the imaging and soundstage is atrocious. Like I said these are very good speakers for being new and the price they are, but if you are upgrading from something besides a HTIB then you aren't going to get much of an upgrade. If you are a really discerning listener a better way to spend your money would be to cruise Craigslist for deals on vintage audiophile grade equipment. The $450 plus another $100-150 from selling your Sonys could land you a very nice setup on the used market. I just saw a Difinitive Tech 5 speaker system with towers that were $2.5k alone new go for $500 the other day. I personally picked up some Polk RT 6 bookshelves which are better than the current RTI series equivelent for only $20. Patience and a discerning ear/eye will land you an incredible system for little coin. |

I have the Bic RTR-EV1200. Why does that matter? And for this other guy saying the Polk Monitor series sound like "garbage", please take your snooty attitude elsewhere. Go listen to your $1,000 dollar speakers and stay off threads that don't concern you. Nobody cares what you think.

Just for the record, when the Onkyo receiver was tossed over my fence it was delivered by FedEx. |

The box for M70's are huge, & i doubt Newegg's gonna put a huge box into a enormous one. Shippers toss them around, hence reason for insurance & us sd'ers doing RMA's. FYI my grill was cracked but unfortunately the same impact also scuffed up the speaker. Luckily I rec'd a undamaged replacement. I scored on a fry's RTi12's & on 1 tower the diffuser was cracked. I'm on the east coast & somehow got these shipped even when they are supposed to be local clearance only. I called Polk & got free replacement part & $20 off my original fry order (should have asked for $100 off). |
