...but I would avoid using AVG is any mission critical/Internet used PC. It's not on the front lines like Kaspersky, Norton & Bitdefender are. It's a third tier protection at best. It would be one thing for say those that are financially strapped, and don't know about Slickdeals & the deals etc. But for SD members, it's silly not to get FAR top level protection.

This latest "FBI" virus was a perfect example. It hit fast & hard and AVG didn't have the definitions until many days later, same with MSE. If you were unlucky enough to be on a page that had advertising that was infected by this clever little bug & were only protected by AVG/or\MSE in the very early days a month + ago you were in for a little work.

If you plan to give it or sell it cheap to somebody to offset the cost well at least those people will have something bc if they are buying it they aren't very savvy to begin with so maybe at least AVG is something.

Que the questions and comments... "well it's OEM so it can only be used on one system" - That's not what OEM means in Malwarebytes' case. It means that THEY aren't responsible for technical support, NEWEGG is but don't expect that etc. from Newegg. Secondly, it can be un-installed & re-installed on a different system.

MS Essentials + this is the better combo. In fact, I don't know anyone that purchases and uses a paid AV. Malwarebytes is awesome and for ~$12 you get realtime scanning and website blocking. Totally worth the $12 for having a virus and malware free PC

Not sure which virus you are talking about. But, I only got the paid version of Malwarebytes recently and I never got a virus before when I was just using MSE. I rather have a fast system and use a bit of common sense than wasting money on a bloated and overly robust AV. MSE has everything one needs (realtime scanning, scheduling if you're into that, and updates automatically). That plus MWB Pro is perfect.

this is a good deal for the best anti spyware/malware. It has caught some things Norton missed...

I've disinfected at least a dozen computers with the "FBI Virus," and most of them were running Norton or McAfee. A couple even had Kaspersky, which we use most of the time. So far, no one has kept ahead of the "FBI Virus."

By the way, I've been running AVG Free for years, and I haven't had a virus since 2001. I run Firefox with Adblock Plus. I think that's more important because it seems a lot of these viruses are coming in through infected advertisements which take advantage of security holes in Flash Player or Java. Keep those two up to date at all times, and you've got a lot better chance of staying clean.

So people should buy this for the malwarebytes, but not use the AVG? We have 4 laptops and 2 desktops in our house. Out notron expired last month. Trying to find something affordable, to put on all machines. Can anyone recommend a good anti virus program? We had malwarebytes but the trial version expired. Thanks for the help.

Forgot to mention, we use IE and firefox.
