No...GCs do not count...I figured that out last year the hard way.

All Qualifying Purchases are subject to verification by Staples before being credited to a Member's account.

Qualifying Purchases made by the Member but for which the Member's account number was not used at the time of the transaction can be added to the Member account if Staples is contacted with the original 17-digit receipt barcode number from the store receipt or order number, and the Member’s account number at staplesrewards.com or by calling 1-800-793-3320 as promptly as possible after the date of the transaction, but within the current quarter or the two previous calendar quarters only. Only purchases made by the Member may be added to the Member’s account. Purchases are credited upon verification within five days after they are requested. Qualifying Purchases that have been verified are applied to the Member’s account with a transaction date of the date approved. A maximum of 10 purchases may be requested to be credited per day. Qualifying Purchases cannot be transferred, sold or bartered.

Yes I think its 2.5% and its considered a cash advance and I dont know if a prepaid card allows it.

Yes sounds like a good strategy to buy one of these VISA cards and then use it to buy the next one and so on. You still have to pay the extra $5.99 but at least you don't end up with $1000 of VISA gift cards at the end. You only end up with one and out $59.99 in extra cash and have $150 in Staples Gift Cards (after submitting all those SERs and hopefully getting the cards).

I thought if you pay with rewards they get netted from any rebate amount. No? So of if you buy ut online using rewards as earlier poster said you may not get this bonus- right?

The transaction fee is waived until sometime next year.

And I have used Serve with prepaid credit cards, VISA gift cards, and regular credit cards. It is sometimes hit or miss with individual cards, but it has worked on all of those groups before.
