You can do that without a problem with Verizon.
Just buy the phone, call in to activate and you're good to go.
Only problem is you might have to get a new SIM card. But they're free from any VZW corporate store.
the sim card is for the 4G LTE
just go to a verizon store to have them go through the phone switching for you.
So I can't? I'm pretty sure some, if not all, Verizon 4G LTE phones have SIM cards. Does the Galaxy SIII not have this option?
there is no sim card
This is a VZW phone. It operates on a different spectrum than TMo.
Older phones with sim cars couldn't be switched. (like a blackberry storm etc).
But once you have a 4g LTE phone (I had a Samsung Droid Charge) and I just recently bought a HTC Droid Rezound and just swapped sims and it activates right up.
If you want to put the phone on a DIFFERENT number - then you need a new sim car. That sim card can only be used for 1 mobile number in Verizon's system. They weren't able to "reprogram" mine to another number.
Basically I bought the Droid Charge under contract on 1 mobile numer on my account and tried to switch the esn to another - I had to go to the store and get a new sim for the new number.
So YES - I believe you can just buy this and activate it by swapping sims.
If I currently have a HTC Thunderbolt, could I buy this and just swap the sim card?
i actually upgraded from a tb to the gs3, but i was under the impression that they use different sims, but maybe i was thinking of something else. in any case, you should be able to walk into a vzw store and get a new one.
So you're telling me that I can put my T-Mobile SIM card into a CDMA phone that has a SIM slot for LTE only?
This phone has the capability to do LTE and GSM, but it is natively disabled by Big Red. In order to use it on T-mo, you're going to have to be very comfortable modifying the software which will void any warranty. You will also be unable to use T-Mo LTE, you will be limited to GSM bands. XDA has the instructions necessary.
No you can't, they changed sim card sizes from the thunderbolt to the SIII, I already went through this myself.
Verizon corporate stores will give you a new SIM free of charge. Authorized retailers generally charge ~$30
