Black Friday is two weeks away, but these drives are so unpredictable. One day they are low and then up to $150 the next.
Never fear! The California sales tax whiner is here!

these drives look to be more reliable than other consumer drives, but I wonder how they compare to enterprise level drives?
these drives should be 80 bucks by now, flood was over a year ago. And some manufacturer didnt even have factories there, its just a money grab for them by claiming "shortages" |

imho a red would be just as fine. Power savings over the blacks, performance and platter advantage over the greens, don't know much about the blues, and cheaper than the enterprise. I picked up one to throw in to my raid6 with a bunch of samsung hd204ui's... Hopefully no issues will be encountered, the one green I had would drop from the array and so I just use it on it's own mostly for offline storage without raid now.

Good to see Amazon matched the price. |

I know that these 2TB Red drives are optimized for for NAS usage. However, I already have 3TB drives for my (eventual) NAS.
Right now I need a 2TB desktop drive. I have been waiting for a $130 - $140 deal on WD2002FAEX (WD Black), but they do not seem to be popping up. What are the advantages / disadvantages of just getting and using one of these 2TB Reds for my desktop build rather than waiting for a possible deal on a Black? I hate to miss out on this deal if the Reds are "good enough". |
