The punk ass manufacturers now usually under fill them to only 25% capacity so you end up having to buy new ones almost right away.

I was thinking about the same thing? Also, are there any 3rd party cartridges that can be purchased for this model? What do new (fully filled) OEM cartridges cost?

The specs say each starter cartridge is good for 2000 pages. That's about 5-6 times more than a standard ink jet cart if it represents typical 5% coverage.

The black cartridge in the side bar of the first link shows a refill black cart for $75 with a yield of 4000 pages. Looks like the starters are 50%.

My experience with a Magicolor 2300DL from several years ago was that the starters did indeed produce a yield similar to this units advertised specs.

Maybe the 'slickest' deal is to buy two Magicolor 3730DNs for $179 each and use the second one for spare drum, fuser and toner? (And get auto duplexing as a bonus.)

I purchased this over a year ago, it's a great printer but heavy and large. High capacity toner cartidges (6,000 pages vs. 4,00 for standard) will run about $120 apiece for color and $80 for black. What I did was to purchase the refill toners plus chips on ebay for all four at the cost of $137 which are working out great. A little trouble uncorking the plastic stopper in each but not very hard to refill. Very satisfied with the print quality and speed. Here's a link to the exact toner I purchased eBay Link [ebay.com]

Wow... Thanks for the link. Yes, these cartridges have microchips that, once they detect that the cartridge ran out of toner, will make sure it never works again. So they include new chips with a refill... an easy solution .

You said refilling is not too hard, which is great. How easy is it to screw it up by accident when refilling? Thanks!!!

Tempted...but tax really kills this deal for me.
