This is a pretty good deal if you can live with 1366 x 768 on a 15" screen. I've tried, and hate low pixel density. Never again.
Boy, you're right, that's a really crap density. I mean, it's OK on my 10" netbook. On a 15" laptop? Give me a break.

I am looking for a new 15.6 i5 3rd gen processor laptop, but I REALLY want a dedicated graphics card. I have been looking at this Asus A55 [newegg.com] for a few weeks now, but this deal has the exact same specs MINUS the graphics card and it is $200 less. Urghhh. Frikkin graphics cards man.

is it possible to change the graphics card on this?

if i hook this up to an LCD monitor, will i be able to use the native resolution of the monitor without suffering a setback in speed on the laptop?

i'm a computer nublet so i appreciate all the help!

If you'll use this with a monitor and game a lot with it, then I would get the A55. The thing that gets me about people splurging for dedicated VRAM on a budget laptop is that generally the screen is low-res, so you would be running games at low-med settings, anyway. The HD 4000 graphics are just good enough to handle most games with modest settings: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Inte...168.0.html

There was a z580 w/ the gt 610m card at Newegg for $480AR over Labor Day. If you didn't get in on this deal, I'm sure another deal like that will come this winter.

The hard part would be getting your hands on a compatible graphics chip. You'd have to take the laptop completely apart but the installation can be done on this laptop.

You shouldn't get a lag from hooking this to an LCD. If anything you should be able to get a better resolution than the native screen supports.

For a home set up, it would be a lot easier and cheaper to get a desktop so you can buy install top-end graphics without hassle. Serious gaming on a laptop isn't cheap or practical.

Although I currently do not play any games, I will in the future, and that is exactly what I plan to do. Use an external monitor and game on that. Too bad I didn't see that deal, and I didn't end up buying this deal. I have been seriously looking for a good deal on a laptop for probably 3 weeks now and it is exhausting (I know, first world problems), which is why I feel like buying the A55 now because it has EVERYTHING I want. Except I wanted it to be under $600. The A55 was $680 a few days ago, and now its $650, so I have no idea what that means in terms of a possible price drop/increase in the near future.

Also most BF deals in stores will not have dedicated VRAM, so that's a waste. I have been checking out the Newegg daily deals every day for a laptop/monitor/Samsung 830 256 GB SSD price drop, because I plan on swapping the harddrive for that. I decided the day after the $150 Slickdeal that I was for sure going to use an SSD. Head Bang

Anywho, thanks for the input!

I had the same problem. FW only links to the main Lenovo site. I might do a click follow-up with FW in couple of months if I have time.I think FW forces you to wait than lonng before asking why CB hasn't been posted to your account.

Just deal alert the p/y/z580 and see if something comes up with VRAM. We at least know that stock is being cleared out this season.

Just remember you're always paying a hefty premium for graphics on a laptop vs a desktop. That GT610m card performs worse than PCIe cards you could get for $15AR or $20AR this week: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net...rce+GT+610

Yet on a laptop it could easily justify a $200 price premium. $200 toward a destop graphics card would get you Eyefinity and the ability to play at med-high settings on a big screen. Also, when the high-end cards start dropping in price next season, your laptop will be stuck with the card it has while on a desktop you could upgrade the card in minutes.

I like laptops mainly for schoolwork, very light gaming, vidchat. as a video/mp3 library and as a second TV. For heavier gaming/video-editing, I think you'll need the power and heat removal abilities of a desktop.
