Just deal alert the p/y/z580 and see if something comes up with VRAM. We at least know that stock is being cleared out this season.

Just remember you're always paying a hefty premium for graphics on a laptop vs a desktop. That GT610m card performs worse than PCIe cards you could get for $15AR or $20AR this week: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net...rce+GT+610

Yet on a laptop it could easily justify a $200 price premium. $200 toward a destop graphics card would get you Eyefinity and the ability to play at med-high settings on a big screen. Also, when the high-end cards start dropping in price next season, your laptop will be stuck with the card it has while on a desktop you could upgrade the card in minutes.

I like laptops mainly for schoolwork, very light gaming, vidchat. as a video/mp3 library and as a second TV. For heavier gaming/video-editing, I think you'll need the power and heat removal abilities of a desktop.
So I was checking out that videocardbenchmark website, and it seems to me that the HD Graphics 4000 integrated card might be better, or at least the SAME as the GT610M? I looked at it for quite sometime, trying to compare the two, and that was my conclusion. I mention this because of two things.
1) The Asus A55 went back up $30, so now it is sitting at $680.
2) This deal came back into stock, so this laptop deal is an option again.

Note that I won't be doing any "heavy gaming/video-editing." The maximum video demanding thing I can think of is exporting my screen to a (probably) 50" TV, and then also playing Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2) when it comes out in US (and perhaps playing that on the 50"). I can't imagine that game being graphics intensive though, based off the screenshots/style of the game. Would I be able to do this with Intel HD 4000? And would I be able to do it better with a GT610M? The normal usage will probably be external monitor, so the laptop will essentially be powering two screens during any normal usage.

At this point in my life a desktop is not an option, although yes, I know it is more cost efficient.

EDIT: I don't know why I couldn't find this laptop during my Newegg searches before, but this Lenovo Z580 [newegg.com] seems like a better deal than the Asus A55. However this one has Windows 8, and I don't want Windows 8. The Z580 looks exactly the same as the Asus A55 but $50 less AND has a better graphics card (I am assuming the GT635M > GT610M).

2ND EDIT: This is what I'm talking about. Compare that Z580 to this one [newegg.com]. For $100 more you get i5 instead of i3, and you get a dedicated graphics card. I am so confused with laptop prices.

3RD EDIT: I guess I am 2 months too late for exactly what I want. Head Bang Head Bang Head Bang

If you were choosing, I think the deal on this thread would be the best for you. The integrated graphics are made to work well with external display and video playing. I've seen LoL played on a similar laptop so PSO2 should be no problem with this. Just try not to run a lot of background processes b/c the graphics have to share RAM with the rest of the system.

But if you can wait, I would hold out for a better deal around the corner. I suspect that by the end of winter, either a Lenovo rebate, store promo code, price cut, or the inclusion of the VRAM will make this a slicker deal. Might end up saving you $50 or so. I think this is an okay deal for people who have a need for a laptop this month and/or who don't mind wagering $50 for having a laptop sooner rather than later. I don't think there's a risk that this model will become much more expensive and stay that way b/c the new Ideapads will have better specs at competitive prices.

I only use laptops for basic stuff: Browsing, mp3, documents, youtube...
Should I wait a couple of weeks for a better deal or jump on this?

I can wait, I just don't want to. laugh out loud But in reality I really should wait, because of the fact that I am going to switch out the HDD for an SSD, I am not going to even use the new computer until I have an SSD. And I currently don't, because I am waiting for another good deal on the Samsung 830 256 GB, or an equivalent. There would be no point in installing new programs just to reinstall the OS on the SSD. Tis frustrating, I was getting pumped for a new computer.

Thanks for all the help!

Intel HD graphics scale with series (P, i3, i5, i7) and TDP. Unless you are running the highest config (i7 desktop), Intel graphics will always suck for gaming.
