MBAM + MSE works great for me. I wouldn't use it solo, but use it with MBAM and haven't had one major issue since before when MSE used to be WIndows Defender.

Because it consistently scores on a scale of 1-100 in the mid to upper 70% tile. It's not on the front line, it's not finding and writing definitions for the latest threats in most cases it is a reactionary body. AT LEAST if you are going to go with a Free AV use AVAST it scores in the 90% tile.
Some of those commenting about paying for AV... well neither do most of us. When the top rated Kaspersky, Norton, & Bit Dender (non-bloated streamlined security suites) are FAR it's hard to argue. Now if they form a cabal like the memory industry and quite doing nearly weekly or bi-weekly FAR deals between Fry's & Newegg then it will be time to make some choices. Fortunately the last 7 years of FAR deals over & over again have forced no such dilemmas. P.S. just an AV is not enough... Unless you have an additional software & hardware firewall.

Absolutely correct, I would go one step further, on the independent studies from labs that aren't run by magazines (that take in any revenue from the software - companies that they then purport to be objective about and give ratings) MSE & AVG consistently score in the mid to upper 70%. By not being on the bleeding edges of threats it means that unless the virus is stopped by other means. IE: You weren't on the internet that day, you didn't visit a site that had the ad or other source running drive by infections or didn't click & execute the email attachment or other file, you aren't running a script blocker add-on such as in Firefox, or the virus is similar enough (a mutation of a known virus) that the heuristics analysis from already received definitions stops/blocks it... otherwise the time sometimes hours sometimes days, sometimes a week+ before MSE & AVG get the definition is critical time. The absence of an infection (or the perceived absence) is purely anecdotal that MSE & AVG are "great".

If the choice was FREE VS $70 no - brainer pick the free one, add additional sentinel programs like Malware Bytes, a good software firewall & a router with SPI/NAT firewalls or a dedicated both with a more customizable hardware firewall.
But on SD's the choice is always FREE VS FAR. In that case it only makes sense if you can't front the initial $50-$70 before MIR investment or you don't have a good MIR system.

Rebate only requires a copy of UPC code. Make sure it's a copy or rebate might be denied.

If it's like the last time a few weeks ago, TD will send only the disc with the UPC code taped to the back of the disc sleeve. Make a copy of the back of the sleeve. Cut out the UPC label and tape it to the specific section that the rebate form states.

Fill out rebate form online then print and sign it
Print copy of invoice from your TD account by clicking the "view invoice" link of your order (wait until tracking number is shown on the invoice before printing)
Tape copy of UPC code to the bottom left corner of the printed rebate form
Mail both the rebate form and invoice

If you do it correctly, your rebate will be processed, approved, and ready to be mailed within a couple days once it's received. You should receive Amex card within a month.

I use the free version and am very happy with it!

Also remember that the order confirmation is not the same as the invoice. You have to go to your order history on Tigerdirect.com and View the Invoice and print that vs the Order Status.
