1. Cord plug exploded in a flash and left metal prongs in wall socket. Cloud of burnt soot in air.
2. Top heating element warped, touched top of metal shell and overheated which blew circuit breaker.
3. Smoke and flames after unit stayed on after using toast setting. Managed to pull plug and grab flaming TO w/ oven mitts and rush it outside.

BD no help re: recalled units or warranty,which would have cost more to return item than replacement.

Update: have had it for two days and I'm bringing it back. Why? It is really bad at making TOAST! I bought this to replace a 25+ year old Toastmaster toaster oven. (I liked the new look of the B&D.). Did a comparison toast-off: 1 piece of bread in the CENTER of each toaster. Toasted for 3m:30s. Old toastmaster may look dated on the outside, but it produced (with the flick of ONE switch....and without a loud time-bomb ticking sound that you get as an added bonus with the B&D) a perfect piece of toast...evenly medium-brown all over. The B&D produced a splotchy mess....black in some spots, still white in others. I also don't understand that....I picture these for baking, a toaster for toasting. I wouldn't put my pizza rolls (only example i can think of lol) in the toaster and be mad they didn't cook properly...weird.

I used to use it for toast all the time.. yes its not as good or as fast as a toaster and not as consistent, but I dont really care of there are a few dark streak on are as opposed to another, I just want the bread to crisp a bit. This is when I didnt have a toaster, and then one of my roommate had one so we did use that for toasting regular bread and smaller bagels. But larger bagels still got stuck a bit so ended up using the TO for that as well. Sometimes I need to toast 3-4 at the same time, then use the TO as well. Or if you just dont have room for two, etc etc, there are tons of valid reasons why you can use a TO to toast bread, I've never had an issue with it.

For people complaining it doesnt toast as evenly, u should try experimenting with the rack height... sometimes if it is too closer or closer to the top coils or bottom, it can cause the uneven burning. Also you do not HAVE to use the hottest toast setting for toast... use a lower setting, it may take a minute more but it will also toast more evenly.

Got mine today! Looks real nice. Alot more modern than my old garbage white one..Havent used it, but should be fine as i am only baking stuff in it.
