New job, no 401k, already doing ROTH IRA, any other options?
A few months ago I started a thread about looking for contract work instead of a full time position. Well, that shoe dropped and I just accepted an offer as a consultant. I am W2 through an agency, but I won't have access to a 401k for a year.
I was contributing 50% into my 401k with my last (but still current) company. This is only because I anticipated leaving them soon and wanted to put in as much as I could. My wife will be increasing hers in order to cap it out next year.
What else can I do to reduce my taxable income? We each max out ROTH IRA's, and my understanding is that you can't do a traditional IRA and a roth at the same time.
Can I do a self-directed 401k of some sort? Something that I can eventually roll over into something else?
