Question about how these work. If I buy two of these sets can I connect three of the adapters to the remaining one which is connected to the router?

It might work, but 99.9% of the negative reviews I read (about ALL powerline units) were from persons that cried like beaten stepchildren that powerline adapters don't work were using powerstrips or didn't realize they were hooking them up to different breakers.

Works just fine for many, many, many people. Not sure what sort of super-HD, bandwidth-hogging megapron you're streaming, but Netflix is reported over and over and over again to be more than adequate with those units.

No reason to spread FUD here.

1. Upgrade to 200 Mbps Powerline

If you still have original HomePlug (14 Mbps) or even HomePlug "Turbo" (85 Mbps) gear and you're trying to use it to stream HD video, you're fighting a losing battle. Original HomePlug adapters yield only around 5 Mbps of usable throughput.

While "Turbo" adapters are able to deliver best case (same room) speeds in the low 20 Mbps range, average room-to-room speeds quickly move down to 10 Mbps or so.

Both of these speeds are too low to support the 20+ Mbps required for 720p HD streams. But HomePlug AV (200 Mbps) adapters can deliver best case speeds of 60+ Mbps (Figure 3). Even when degraded by 50%, these speeds are fine for 720 and even some 1080p HD streaming applications.

Assume makes an ass of you and me. I have a powerline on a powerstrip and it works, so stop assuming it doesn't. And there could be a other reasons why powerline might not work, like pairing issues unrelated to the house wiring.

as far as an apartment building. wouldn't anyone else be able to plug in an adapter and use your internet connection? i guess you'd have to set up some acccess control.

How much slower is this vs a actual cat5 cable? I'm using a bridge right now, which is okay but it goes out and I have to reset it every few days. this would be a ideal replacement for it, but i've heard the connection is not as strong?
