Actually it's on sale for $229 but nobody in the store could tell me for how long...

Still, it's soo expensive I am wondering if it's really that good.
I would like to hear any owners comments...

There are 2 versions: the older V1, which is $229, and the newer, thinner V2 for $249.
Would be nice to know which one is on sale...

Beat me to it. The second version from what I understand is supposed to support more A/C units that the first one wont. I am not an A/C guy; but, this is what I was able to gather.

I would recommend, if you are serious about it, to contact NEST and they will tell you if it will work <or if you need the second version, etc>.

They may ask you to take a pic of your wiring. The cover comes off easily enough.

Good to know. I was actually there today and I have noticed horizontal crack in 1/3 from the bottom on display unit. Since nobody could tell me if the display unit is 1 or 2gen then we peeked inside of 2nd gen open box unit. Shockingly that one had the same crack almost in the same spot!? (and display unit was actually 1st gen...)
Now I start to wondering if I should stay away from this expensive gadget.
I checked compatibility and either one should work for me. But maybe I should rather go with 1st gen 5y warranty over 2y for 2nd gen? Any ideas?

That's correct. The 2nd nest works in more types of homes. You can also check the compatibility of your home's system with either of the nest's using this easy tool: http://webapps.easy2.com/cm/flash...patibility
