WARNING: CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT. THEY "ACCELERATED" MY BILLING DATE TO JAN 14 2013. ar least based on what my account says.
SCAMMERS.
On a side note, not impressed with the selection, otherwise OK.

Our records show that you are participating in a six-month free trial of Hulu Plus that is only available to users who purchased eligible models of Sony TVs with a valid device code through the Sony TV promotion. Because you are not eligible for this offer we will automatically transfer your account to a free one-month trial of Hulu Plus on 11/21/2012.

We apologize for the inconvenience. No action is required on your end.

Please contact Hulu Support should you need any assistance.

Sincerely,
The Hulu Team

Dude, if someone figures out a loophole based on a mistake, why should the company honor it? By your logic, if you figure out a tax loophole for taking deductions for capital investments, the IRS should still honor it once they find out the deductions were being taken by people who didn't qualify. Good luck with that.

When it's a mistake like that, all bets are off. If they honor it, then you got lucky. If not, well you took the risk and now you are stuck with the CC chargeback. Nobody asked you to give them your card. You only did it because you got greedy and wanted a free 6-months when you didn't have the promo code. You win some, you lose some. Can't blame them one bit, here.
Hulu is completely in the wrong here. I noticed by accident that my account had been changed to a 1 month expiration. I searched my email folders including Trash and SPAM and Hulu never sent me an email about it. I send in a service request asking about the expiration change and Hulu never answered. I sent in two more and all I got were acknowledgements of receipt of my request but no answer (it's been 3 weeks now). This is just plain unacceptable.

When you do a mistake you have to owe it. That is business.
IRS is not a business entity. Don't compare apple and oranges. I hope you don't go for free lunch. This is slick deals and people will jump when its really a deal and companies like Hulu are using it. Don't throw your meaningless arguments to support it, when they can just cancel the accounts (which were created because of their mistake) and owe it, instead of charging the CC. Why the hell they are not doing that, after realizing that it's a mistake? Because it's a manufactured mistake.

First read my post in full and try to get my point. This is not a generated/artificial mistake created to lure people. That the way I see it. For your info I didn't lose any money on this.
Neither did I. All I'm saying is we shouldn't feel we're ENTITLED to something, because the business says it is free for someone and we find a way to squeeze ourselves in.

IRS is a perfect example, they are merely given powers to enforce their point of view while businesses must fight it out in court. Well, you can fight the IRS in court too, but let's not go there.

This is slick deals, and people can jump and dance for all I care. If you are willing to give a CC out, then there is always the risk of being overcharged, billed incorrectly or downright fraud.

From the company's point of view, they see it as an opportunity to make money off of gullible people who sign up and forget. They're in it for money, not for charity. Why wouldn't they do that, especially to a group of people who tried to "score" a free 6-months when this was really meant for people buying overpriced Sony tvs, that would have underwritten (and paid for) the "promo"?

How is that unacceptable, but it's not unacceptable for you to try to get six free months without buying the Sony TV and entering the promo code?

Because they didn't stop you?

If it's too good to be true it usually is. Gotta be skeptical of all these things.

That's how I feel - and I say that as myself, not speaking for the company. However, if you got stuck with a charge and didn't intend to, if you contact us about it we're usually really cool about taking care of that for you. Just a heads up.

We did send out email notifications to the email addresses you signed up with. If you didn't get one, I understand why you'd be frustrated. Where did you send in the request? We're a little backed up right now (holidays, methinks) but if you got a receipt you should hear back within a few days. If you wanna PM me, I can try and help get you set up.

So why is it that some users got to keep the 6 months, and others didn't?

I thought it was shady how in the email where they explained what happened they said it would be changed to a 1-month trial on 11/21/2012. But now I see I got charged on 12/15/2012. I was gonna cancel on the 20th since that's when I presumed the month would be almost over. So the trial start date stayed the same but the terms of it changed. I wonder how many people got hit with a charge and aren't gonna bother with it. Here, have my $7.99 Hulu but I'm not dealing with your BS and commercials after this!

Well that kind of sucks, but since Hulu + was such a huge dissapointment not that bad. Just glad I caught it early. Called up Hulu, cancelled my account and they are refunding me the $7.99.
