I got a GE at HD two weeks ago for $158 OTD after using "the" coupon. This a fantastic deal. Wish it had been around then...
GE is one of the best manufacturers 20 years ago,
However today, They make there products with different parts every year, Never know what your going to get. They have sold themselves out. Go return your GE and get this. You will thank me later. There products they make now are now unworthy of competitors. Most GE appliances dont last past 5 years without replacing something.

Just picked one up last night after my GE refrigerator's circuit board died AGAIN on me. Perfect timing. Horrible experience with this GE Fridge. For what it's worth, they offer to send me a new board at cost $90 including tax+shipping.

Which is a better deal?
I would bet both freezers are made by the same company. These inexpensive freezers are coming from a mfg in China. Typically will have the silver foil/aluminum interior. Their are only two main mfg of regular freezers: WC Woods and Frigidaire. These 2 companies build for GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, etc. The North American freezers from Woods/Frigidaire have white painted steel interiors. Woods builds in Canada and Frigidaire in Minnesota. Woods and Frigidaire use typical fridge/freezer compressors. The China units are not up to the same quality of compressor (look like dorm fridge compressors). The Woods/Frigidaire freezers should get you 12-15 years. The China ones 6-8. (My company offers free recycling and these numbers are based on what I see come back).

Look at the reviews of the GE 7.0 cu. ft. freezer on Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/Applianc...reId=10051

Shows perfect setups for homebrewCorny Kegs x 4 plus CO2. Corny Kegs are 5 gallons and the same that coke fountains used before the advent of syrup boxes/C02/water.

As for normal kegs, height wise they are within an inch of the corny kegs shown in the review pics above--but they have built up the sides by 6 inches plus to make it work (lines on top of the kegs plus the insulation from lid of freezer.) But not sure about whether the diameter would pose a problem. A pony keg would be no problem, but the freezer might be overkill for it. In any case, you would not be able to have 2 kegs side by side for efficiency, so I would go with a much larger chest freezer for multiple kegs, or an upright fridge or freezer for single kegs. Some of the larger "dorm" fridges make good candidates.

Hope this helps.

Picked up one yesterday with the coupon and noticed this in the manual:

Quote :
Ambient temperature below 50°F or above 85°F will hinder the performance of this
appliance. This unit is not designed for use in a garage or any other outside installation.
Guess it's going in the basement.
