Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz LGA 1155 Processor $230 In-Store Micro Center

well now i don't feel so bad on missing out on that chip.

CPU only is still a super hot deal. Hoping for a hot mobo only deal soon.

They practically swiped off the mobo discount under our feet. Oh well. Guess I will pass on this one. BF might bring a $199 CPU deal like last year for the 2600K.

I was using an i5-540M (laptop) to encode and it took several hours for 1080p, basically had to leave it running overnight. I now have the 3770K (not overclocked) and it is 3x to 4x faster. I am running 1080p High Profile preset at RF20. Most movies encode at 20-30fps, or essentially realtime (e.g. 2 hour movie takes 2 hours). Exact speed depends a lot on the movie, for example The Avengers was slower than average ~15fps, probably due to all the effects. A documentary that doesn't have a lot of cuts or complex scenes will go faster than average. Also note that handbrake can't fully utilize all 8 threads when endcoding so the system is still quite usable while handbrake runs in the background. I would definitely recommend the upgrade...the 3770K is sweet spot for encoding price/performance.

I bought the 3770k with the Asus P8Z77-M PRO ($99 after combo discount) at Microcenter plus a Silverstone TJ08-e from Fry's for my HTPC. Now I am just waiting on some 3TB or 4TB drives to go on sale.

seems their combo deal is all jacked up, i added what was in the ad I see online but pricing in cart still reflect non combo price.

Now if CompUSA/TD pricematched...

I just did a build this weekend with a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H. Nice board for the price (lots of features, plenty of USB 3.0 and a ton of SATA ports - I have an SSD boot drive, 2 optical, 4 mech HDs for storage, and the board has a port for all of them and more - 8 internal, 2 E-SATA on the back). MC gave me another $50 off when buying w/ 3770K. Bummer that I missed out saving an extra $50 on the 3770K, but meh, it's crazy fast. Also, Win8 Pro is actually pretty awesome in a dual monitor power user setup (this is my photoshop/work machine). Overall, really happy with Windows 8. Lots of new tricks and tweaks, but it's all there.

edit: by the way, the board was $130 w/ $50 combo discount.

I would greatly appreciate (rep) anyone that can help me and has had experience with Microcenter. I bought the processor from them on October 24 for $289.99 plus tax. Will they do a price adjustment? Does it have to be done in person or can it be done on the phone? Will I have to uninstall the actual processor from my new build and bring it in, or can I simply bring the receipt / box and manual and stock cooler, etc. ? Also does it matter if the processor is currently out of stock at the store?

You should only have to bring in the receipt for PM. I would call to verify.

I did this with my 2700K awhile back. You will definitely have to do this in person. (Leave the processor in your PC). It should not be a problem but can vary depending on the manager. Since it is less than 30 days you can also buy another processor at the sales price and return it using the old receipt. Most managers and sales people understand you can do this so they will do the adjustment. Even if a store is OOS they shoud do it. You are basically supplying your own stock and buying it back at the sales price. It seems like a simple operation but some people just don't get it and you may have to explain it a couple of times.

The blue shirt monkey wanted to give a regular 3770, good thing I was paying attention to the screen and the transaction. Also used the 3X bonus rewards points worth it $15 in gift cards...Thanks...

the price match it's B&M only...I tried to do it by chat and phone and did not go ...

I just called the Fairfax, VA Microcenter and they said they will pricematch the processor, so they will give me another $50 back. Only had the processor 2 weeks.
