I always load up on gift cards when this deal is on. I buy Macy's, Kohls, JCPenny, Amazon , Chile, Subway Longhorn Applebees. My wife does all our Christmas shopping using gift cards. Macy's honors gift cards as if it's a Macy charge. All sales are honored as if you have a Macy Card. We use $200 gift card at Kohls and put $10 on Kohls card to use our 30% off discount. The restaurant gift cards are given as gifts throughout the year and also used by us.

I pay for my cards with my Costco AMEX. 2% back from Costco and I think 2% from AMEX. When I fill up at Kroger (with my gas cans too) I pay with my AMEX and they give me 4% back In Feb. for all gas purchases. My wife drives 80 miles round trip for work so the gas in the cans isn't around for long.

I got the rebate form at Kroger in Michigan. In the beer aisle in front of the Coors display. My form states on the front "Beer Purchase Required"

I live in CA so I use Ralph's and Shell for the groceries/gas promo. Is the redemption limit only 10cents per gallon at Shell? i could have sworn I used more before..

If not though, you could buy $200 worth of best buy gift cards at ralphs and take them to best buy and buy a visa card for $200 plus $5.95 activation fee(use amazon payments to send $199 and then spend the last dollar). If you get .80 cents / gallon savings, my tank holds 17 gallons so that would be $13.60 - $6 = $7.60 made. Probably not worth it.

But if you can get 35 gallons like someone mentioned above, then it's $28 - $6 = $22. That's not bad. What are the gallon limits though for these deals? Isn't there a $100 limit on credit card transactions.

just curious, why would Kroger sell other companies GC. arent they killing their own sales?

They try not to sell direct competitors. For example, you won't find them selling gift cards of any other stores that are primarily grocery. However, they do sell Target which I would consider a grocery competitor.

I logged on to post this same scenario but you beat me to it!!! I did not know about Amazon payments though, so thank you for that tip. Also I think this same scenario would work using Target gc to buy Target-logo pre-paid Visa gc.

It's not that much work. A lot of people sit around and watch American Idol and bad reality TV (redundant I know) and then say that these deals aren't worth the time and effort because their time is so valuable.

I'll take $20 savings on gas for a reasonable amount of effort and I like your plan..repped.

Could you just purchase the prepaid visa card and use Amazon payments to send the money to someone, and of course get the 4x fuel points? Just trying to figure it out, thanks!

Yes but at Kroger the largest increment Visa card that qualifies is $100 so you have to pay 1 activation fee per $100, whereas you can buy multiple BestBuy or Target gc without any fees and then use them to buy pre-paids in increments of $200 at BestBuy (don't know what the increments are at Target - could be even higher), so you pay less activation fees.

But what is the chance that Best Buy or Target will allow you to buy a Visa GC with a Best Buy or Target GC?
