I remember Pogs from when I was in elementary school. I don't remember what the purpose of them was other than to collect them though.

it was a game. You stack the thin carboard ones, and take on of the heavy ones and smack the pile with your heavy piece vertical. the ones that fall you collect, next person goes. Person with the most wins (and in more serious games you take their playing piece lol)
I had them as a kid, but most people my age have no idea what they are -_-

LOL, I still have a ton in storage (they WILL be worth something someday Wink)....my High School actually gave the heavy "slammers" out at our Grad Night party OMG
