I'm either considering that one, (Brother seems lightyears better than HP) or the HP at Walmart with double sided printing. |

So I'm still trying to find a printer. Currently, I have the choice of a Canon MG8220 for $99.99 or a Canon MX892 for $69.00, a Canon MG6220 for $69.99 or an Epson Expression Premium XP-600 for $109.99. My original choice was an Epson Workforce 845, but I haven't seen any under $100 deals for one of those. I'm a bit wary of Canons due to what seem to be heavy ink usage/excessive cleaning cycles based on the reviews I've read. However, maybe it's worth it if I shove generic ink in them, which is what I did with my Canon MP600, which has become inoperable after 5 years. Any thoughts? I'm not a heavy print user, but I do print photos from time to time, so I want quality photo printing.

I just posted that up today for the Epson 845. Its cheaper than the WorkForce 645! $99.95 final cost with free shipping from B&H photo. Get it before its gone! I remember paying $150 for the 645 prior to leaving it to the ex-girlfriend. And it was a great machine. I just bought the 845 from B&H today, so I can't tell you how it works, but I'll be getting it ![]() And don't forget....thumbs up! :-P |

Un-freaking-believable. I bought the Canon MG8220 from B&H on the 25th. It's already shipped out. I've been waiting months for that Epson 845 to go on sale, and all I had to do was wait one more day, which I would have done had the deal on the Canon lasted a little longer. That Canon damn well better be a good printer. I only jumped on that because I figured I wasn't likely to see too much better of a deal, and I didn't want to lose out. Oh well. The price I paid is the same that I would have paid for the 845, and I hadn't seen it cheaper than $190 except for a day or two when it was about $130 on Amazon, so in that sense it's the better deal, but the reviews for the 845 are better. However, most of the complaints regarding the Canon have to do with its criminal wasting of ink. My plan is to buy generics and hope that for $100, the printer lasts at least 2 years. |

I almost went with the Epson 7520 a while back, which is a wide-format AIO, because OfficeMax had it on sale for $200, and they were offering a $50 trade-in credit, but I ended up not pulling the trigger on that deal because that printer truly is a monster. I could have fit the 845 without moving anything around, but fitting the 7520 onto my desk would have been a nightmare. I would have had to completely reconfigure my set-up. |

The Canon will last. They always do. But the amount of money you will spend on ink is ridiculous. I too had a canon Pixma (don't remember the model). That thing drank ink like it was water. Thats one of the reasons I went to the Epson 645 back then. The Canon was just costing way too much. Don't get me wrong, its FANTASTIC for photo printing...but it doesn't differentiate between that and everyday printing without sacrificing some major quality. Its like an all or nothing deal. Solution for you? Buy the 845 and return the Canon, or gift it! lol Last edited by The_Reclaimer; 11-27-2012 at 07:20 AM.. |

Now I just have to decide which company's generic ink to go with. My wife was complaining about some pictures fading on prints I had made with ink from 77ink, and I'm not sure if I want to go back to Meritline...there are a couple sources on Amazon that have good reviews. |

And also beware that Brother toners are a slight bit deceiving. They state they whole enough toner for so many prints, but thats based on weight. On the cartridge itself there is a light whole through which a laser shines. Most brother cartridges report empty anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through its suggested life span. Trick to is to cover the hole on the cartridge (looks somewhat like a clear plastic viewfinder) with some electrical tape or anything that will block the laser from shining through. Then, when you start getting light pages you know your cartridge is up. Just some info
