If you are on the fence about this, probably should jump on it. The reason why it's being discounted is because the 830 is an EOL product, being replaced by the much cheaper to manufacture 840. Once the existing supplies are dried up, that's it. They are not producing any more of these. It's then either the 840 or 840 Pro.

The 830 has much higher quality MLC Toggle Nand which will have a longer life than the
TLC in the 840. You will have to get the Pro Model to get MLC Toggle Nand.
Life of TLC vs MLC is about 66% less endurance with the TLC.
Won't make a difference for the average user but if you use it for heavy business use
you have to go for the 830 or the 840 PRO.
These Drives now out of production will probably be selling for a premium over the 840.
Total Estimated Lifespan:
256GB 830 21.0 years
256GB 840 7.0 years

Update on the 840 PRO both review Drives sent to Anandtech died within a week.
There may be problems with the 840 PRO???
