Not a gamer here, so go easy.
Will this work for playing Dirt 3 on a Windows 7 PC? Reps for good info.

the DFGT is probably the best quality of the budget wheels that are out there. it has excellent force feedback, 900deg of rotation and probably the best on-wheel button configuration of any wheel at any price. it competes in price with the Thrustmaster RGT wheel at the ~$115US price point. the Thrustmaster has a clutch but like the DFGT only a sequential shifter and only has 270 degrees of rotation.
upgrading to a G27 (~$225) you get: leather wrapped steering wheel, 6sp gated shifter, clutch pedal. also the overall build quality is better, most sim racers agree that the pedal set as a whole is of a higher quality and produces much better feel while braking (the most important aspect of sim racing is braking correctly). also the internals are upgraded slightly, the gearing system is still plastic but the G27 uses helical gears as opposed to the straight cut gears on the DFGT. this gains the wheel a smoother overall feel while also reducing noise. in my opinion there is no direct competitor to the G27 at its price point. a few people asked about XBOX compatibility. Logitech does not support that. Microsoft, MadCatz and Thrustmaster 458 all have mid-level wheels but are considered fairly cheap. The next tier of wheels is owned by Fanatec. Fanatec chooses to sell their components (wheel, pedal, shifters) separately but also does bundle a few packages for reduced prices. The cheapest option for XBOX compatibly would be the CSR pack at $250 but that does not come with shifters. Add 60 for the shifters (both sequential and gated) and you have $310 but that does not include shipping. Fanatec does have a US shipping warehouse in California so it would not be overseas freight but you would need to check for yourself on the cost. So what kind of upgrade is the CSR from the G27? First off all the Fanatec wheels currently being sold are belt driven as opposed to the plastic gears found in the Logitecs. This brings a whole new level of smoothness and quietness to the driving experience. Most reviewers concur that once you go to a belt driven wheel you will never go back to gear driven and the Logitechs feel like "toys". Currently Fanatec offers 5 wheels varying in price from $180 (GT3RSv2 - wheel only - no XBOX compatiblity) to their newest wheel the Clubsport at $630 (this thing is a piece of work though). They also offer 3 different pedal sets: CSR($70) - standard pedals, most closely resembling G27 pedals CSR Elite($150) - fully adjustable, all metal construction - load cell on brake CSP($250) - all metal construction - load cell brake, upgraded sensors on clutch and gas Also available from Thrustmaster in this mid-market segment is the T500. It comes with a wheel and pedals but no shifter (extra $130). Its priced in the $550 range so it competes mostly with the higher end Fanatec packages. Most people are generally pleased with the feel of this wheel, less so with the pedals (considering the price they want a load cell) but do not like the fact the paddle shifters are stationary. It also does not have XBOX compatibility. That's about it for the mid-level wheels. After that you start going into the high-end wheels FREX, ECCI, TSW, which are over $1000 (and none of those work with XBOX). |

I had this wheel but recently upgraded to a g27.
both great wheels! use a cheap laptop stand from staples/office depot. remove the top (or rather dont install the mdf top) and you get a perfect wheel stand that is height adjustable. can post pics of mine if anyone interested. I use mine with a htpc to play dirt 2,F1 etc.
