Like everything, a kit is always a compromise somewhere.
As you can see, the C stands are pricey, but they're also rock solid. The cheap light stands don't have a large enough footprint. In anything more than a slight breeze, unless you weight them, they're going to blow over.
I'd honestly piece together a kit. The AB's drop $30-$40 used and hold value there. So you decide if you need a new shiny product. They seem to pop-up regularly on Craigslist and the photography boards.
I don't use my backdrop setup very frequently. I'm usually on site so I don't want to lug it around. If I'm shooting babies/kids at the house, I'll set it up. I have a solid lead on a site that I can use as a studio, so I might be investing in that in the near future so I'd be using the backdrop a bit more...
