How does this compared to the Passport you posted for Black Friday for the same price?

I have a 500gb one with a blue drive insideand it just kicked the bucket. It hasnt even beed used too much. Had it for about 2 years. I get this funky grinding noise for like 5 seconds and then no spin, so i am not sure what is going on. I do not know if i trust another wd portable drive since i lost a bunch of important data

This one is better IMHO. This drive contains no software and is great for backing up or storing files of your choice and has the USB 3.0 connection. The Passport on the other hand has backup software embedded in firmware that can't be removed. Many people do not like that. It just takes over the second you plug it in.

You can find a better price for a desktop drive but the advantage of this drive is that it's small and requires no AC adapter. It draws power from the USB port unlike the desktop drives that can be large and require a power brick.

Your computer must have the newer USB 3.0 port to take advantage of the higher speed transfer of this drive but it will still work on USB 2.0 ports.

The purpose of the drive will be to store pictures and music. Is this a great deal or can you find better? USB 3.0 will work with USB 2.0....to answer your question, yes...it can work with any computer USB drive.
