This is the cheapest I have seen a 42" LED HDTV 1080p. It may not have the great specs or be a great brand, but for the price it can't be beat. This sells for new on Walmart.com for $368 + Tax and has an 81% recommendation score.

Were you able to find the backlight adjustment in the menu? Does this TV even have it? I feel this TV is just too bright, especially in my bedroom where I have it hung on the wall.
I'm confused. You mean other than the "brightness" and "contrast" adjustments? I don't find this set overly bright, but then again I have a plasma in the bedroom.

Most TVs have a separate backlight control that varies the intensity of the backlight, be it LED or CCFL, this one apparently does not. Other than the "energy saver" feature which dims the backlight somewhat.
You can lower the backlight to reduce the appearance of blacks not being truly black due to backlight bleeding through in dark areas, and to reduce the overall screen brighness.
This TV has a great picture nonetheless, too bad they ommited that feature from the menu.

I just got an email too saying they are sending one my way... earlier today I picked up the 32' Sceptre from Walmart for $179.00... If this ends up coming Ill keep the 42' for $199.00 and return the other... I had talked to Tiger Direct back when it was first backorder and I was told they wouldnt be getting anymore and they would be cancelling my order, so I was quite surprised to see the email from them...

I purchased 2 - one of them came and has been working well. The other one was stuck on the setup menu no matter what I did. I called Hisense and they said the TV was defective and to work it out with TD. I called TD expecting the worst and they immediately said that I would have to return it and they would find me a comparable TV. Well, obviously this deal was much better than anything else they had so they suggested the Honeywell 42" mentioned earlier in this thread as a replacement with no additional cost to me. I agreed. They emailed me a shipping label for the old TV (no cost to me). Fast forward a week, I now have a Hisense 42" (refurb) and a Honeywell 42" (brand new) for $399.98 + shipping. That was a slick deal!

The screen seems fairly decent, but the Chinese support chips are not all that, as evidenced by their rather poor SD upscaling and advanced features like this. At least it has an optical output if I decide to hook it up to my receiver (a very nice amp, but old enough to not have hdmi).

That's one thing I like about my plasma, colors/blacks are always spot on, but there's just too much glare for one in the living room...and 1080p models are spendy.

Alright, so I am not a "TV guy" and really the only comparing I can do is what is bigger... So I need some help... I have this TV on the way and I also bought the Sceptre 32" Class LCD 720p 60Hz HDTV, X322BV from Walmart... both came out to be about the same price... Obvious the Hisense is bigger and 1080 compared to 720... The main use for the TV is for my boys room who will use it specifically for their XBOX they will be getting for X-mas... can someone tell me which TV I should stick with... Common sense says the bigger 1080 is the way to go, but just wondering if anyone thinks the Sceptre would be worth keeping and cancelling the other...

I'd stick with the 42", it's really a no brainer if they're the same price.

Yeah, plasma is always king when it comes to black levels and viewing angles. At least untill the OLED becomes affordable, those screens are just unreal.

Anyone on backorder go back into "in process." I had gotten an e-mail that my order might be fulfillled about a week ago, but my CC has been charged so I'm assuming it's going to ship. Worth it to keep it? I also already received the 39" from the other TD deal.

I'm set to get this tv delivered on tuesday after being on backorder for a month. Does anybody have experience with purchasing a square trade warranty after this long?

Ok, tv came today instead of tomorrow. Tv looks new, stand has a scuff or 2, no batteries for remote (not a big deal). Tested it real quick and picture looks great, didn't notice any dead pixels. Completely happy with this purchase! Yes the sound is kinda thin like everybody has said, but I'm hooking it to a soundbar and subwoofer anyway so I'm not worried about that.
Still hoping somebody can chime in about buying the square trade warranty since this was originally ordered over a month ago.

I didn't bother with one, but I'd contact TigerDirect. The square trade warranty deal was through them and refurbished items aren't normally covered.
