Nokia Lumia 810 (T-Mobile) $79.99 at Target Mobile (new contract or extension pricing)

There was another thread about the T-Mobile Windows Phone 8X price of $129.99 on target mobile. Same prices as wirefly. Does Target Mobile add the additional ETF like wirefly? They seem like they're on the same inventory system.

OP, would you please elaborate on this? I believe all of T-Mobile's smart phones require at least a $10 data plan if you were to upgrade in-store or over the phone. I don't think a line being primary or secondary has anything to do with Target forcing a data plan upgrade on you. For instance, if one of your lines still has a $5 data plan on there, I don't think they'll let you upgrade to the Lumia 810 without changing your data plan. Was your experience different from what I described above? Did you happen to upgrade any of your lines with an existing data plan that was cheaper than $10?

Isn't the $20 a month towards the phone more like layaway? Once you pay it off, they stop charging the extra $20?

I am not sure about the $5 plans. I have a $10 web access plan which basically gives me unlimited 4G data. In store upgrades force you into the more expensive new plans.
Here is what I know (which is limited). I called T-Mobile and my information is based upon the information I was given (which as we all know is pretty much dependend on who you get on the phone).
1. upgrade through T-Mobile. You can upgrade online, and keep your old data plan, but you won't qualify for the $50 mail in rebate.
2. upgrade through T-Mobile's retention/loyalty department and they might give you the phone for the $99 not requiring the mail in rebate (YMMV). Loyalty will let you keep your old data plan (at least they told me I don't need to upgrade from my plan, in fact the rep told me, why would you upgrade if you get unlimited on your old plan)
3. upgrade through Target. if you upgrade the main line (extend contract that is), they require you to pick a new service plan. If you extend a different line on the family plan, you are being informed that your existing plan will stay in place and you are unable to change it. Again, I called T-Mobile, and they told me that they are only getting the extension from 3rd party vendors and the phone choice does not affect the existing plan.

agaim, I caanot speak for the $5 plan, mine is the old $10 web access unlimied.

exactly that. The Value Plans are based upon bringing your own phone, but since people don't like to cash out up front, they introduced this concept.
The classic plans (which are higher) don't have this and you get the full subsidized price up front.

I believe it is for 20 months. So basically an added $400 on top of any phone upgrade.

Sorry, I misunderstood the previous post about the lay away (really not all that familiar with the layaway concept).
You pay $20 per months for 24 months. Phone price up front $100 + 24*$20 = $540, which is pretty much the retail on the phone.

Thanks & repped for your response and nice post. Yeah, I don't think anything's changed when it comes to upgrades at Target (or anywhere else for that matter). I'm pretty sure your existing data plan has to be at least $10. Otherwise, they'll have to change the plan or they can't do the upgrade at all. A while back, a Target rep actually tried to do an upgrade for me with an existing Tzone plan but the system wouldn't let him....and that was a Tzone compatible phone too.

I have the old $10 unlimited webtogo plan. I went to T-mobile store but they only allow me for the basic phone. Is that means if I go to Target, I can get smart phone and do not have to change my data plan?

Well if yours is a secondary line on a family plan, it looks like you can according to all of the OP's posts above. If you have an individual line, you should also be able to upgrade without changing your plan according to what I was told by a Target rep a long while back (not sure if this is still the case). Just have the Target rep check it in their system and they should be able to tell you yay or nay before committing to the transaction. Just make it absolutely clear that you don't want to change your plan. Also...when you said smartphone, I hope you didn't mean any of the Android phones because your data plan won't be compatible with the Androids.

I actually never bought it. I am waiting for a friend of mine to bring me unlocked Lumia 920 from Canada for X-Mas

As for T-Mobile store. Don't upgrade through a store. They have the objective to upgrade you no matter how. Call T-Mobile and let yourself be transferred to retentions. They will most likely give you the upgrade phone on all lines without making you upgrade your data plan.
As for Target, when I checked with them, in store, they did mention that they could sell me the phone on all lines, but they would have to call it in to T-Mobile to check if I could keep my plan, so that would be a big YMMV, since they actually do not extend your original plan but give you a new plan. If you only extend a secondary line, your original contract will stay in place without any change.
