bought this on last year's preorder from amazon.uk and it was a fabulous deal and they play fine in my US blu ray player. currency exchange was only a couple of bucks.

No, this is the lowest the set has ever been. It was around £30 shipped when it was first released then went up to mid 30's most of the last year. When the Wizards set was released this set dropped to about £28 shipped (a somewhat worse exchange rate than last Xmas though) and now down to £26 shipped.

Yes, but the DVD are Region 2 locked and PAL format so unless you are set for Region Free status .....
It's also only about $5USD cheaper than the Bluray set.

Without the 3 bonus discs however. Good news it's the first legit price on the US set ever for those folks who just want the movies and want them now -- assuming your local store has it in stock which mine rarely seem to.

How's the UK version compared to the US? I read on reviews it supposed to be higher quality with more special features and better packaging

Movies -- same 8 discs except the UK has the original edition of HP1 (Philosophers Stone) with the handful of Americanizations

Bonus Features -- UK has 11 discs, US 8 disc. The differences are the 3 Extras from the 2 disc edition of Movie 6/7/8. The UK set bonus features also have the 50 minute version of "When Harry Left Hogwarts" that none of the US sets had except for the Target Exclusive of Movie 8.

Packaging -- different covers, UK Rating logos that some people hate. Pretty subjective overall. Both are OK, but nothing special like box of the UK Limited Edition.
