It sounds more like a motherboard, in which case find out the exact model # of the laptop, and search ebay for components, and google for a service guide. Depending on the laptop it may be brain surgery, so caveat emptor. There are no beeps or anything coming from the computer right? simplicity is the ultimate sophistication
