TAG Heuer - Friends and Family sale begins Monday

Some brands like Omega and IWC uses ETA movements and thats fine because they don't just embellish the stock movements. Rather, they add features in the case of Omega, the Co-axial movement. Even IWC takes a stock EAT 2892A base $200 movement (found on tags) and re-work them into something completely their own.

Let me summarize Tag for you.

A marketing brand. Not a watch manufacture. They are sold at Department stores to people who don't know any better.
They are own and run by a champagne and purse company, LVMH. Lousi Vuitton Monet Hennesey.

They buy $5-10 Quartz movement and put them in $40 cases and re-sell for $800-100.
Their automatic Carreras (which I own a Vintage Heuer model before the 1980s rebirth and before it became Tag) uses a more expensive $200 ETA movement and they do nothing but polish it up a little bit and put it in a $200 case and sell it for $2000.

I personally buy something a bit more genuine. There are dozen of great brands in the $500-2000 range that has a bit more "authenticity" in terms of who they are.

I'd personally pick a Seiko 5 watch which retails for $150-200 over any Tag Heuer.

As for higher price models.I'll give a comparison of a comparable mark in the same price bracket.
I'd pick a Zenith over a Carrera any day of the week. Zenith makes their own watch movement, the El Primero which was used by Rolex for over 10 years. They even have a nice vintage line which is very authentic.

With all due respect, you are full of crap. Tag uses the higher end ETA quartz engines (quartz movement alone costs well over $200). These aren't your cheap $20 miyota quartz from asia. And I wouldn't exactly compare a $400 Seiko to a $2k Tag. Granted the Grand Seiko line is in its own prestiged rank but the low/mid levels Seiko really have a bland look. While Seiko's base 7r26 based movements are extremely robust and easy to service, they suffer from bad out of box accuracy and the movements are not finished in any way like ETA does for Tag....but then, Seiko premier line cost around $200-$400 vs thousands.

I used to own a quartz Tag link some years ago and it served me very well. I also have couple of Seiko divers that are my beaters. I've also owned 2 Hamilton watches (with v7750 movement).

I'm been eyeing the Tag Carrera for over a year so I'm hoping it will come up during this F&F promo.

And Tag simply doesn't 'polish up the movement'. Here's a friendly link and I suggest you take a read BEFORE claiming that Tag uses $20 movements and 'simply polish up a movement'.

Wow; that's great that TAG made it right. Even though you ended up paying retail, you have got a great watch.

What makes it really bad is when I spot a fake on eBay I report it to eBay. Every time they do nothing about it. The last one, the one I posted on WUS, I reported it several times. It was a seller with hundreds of 100% feedback selling high end watches. I sent eBay the link to the discussion on WUS about how it was fake. It was a perfect fake aside from the movement. They never took it down and the watch sold for around $4k. The buyer never posted feedback, which would have been the first & only way I could contact them. It's sad, and shame on eBay, they really need to start doing more in the situations.

Yes, was really nice of TAG to make an honorable offer like that. They could of just kept my watch and told me to go take a long walk off a short pier. Mine was a perfect fake, even got to the service floor in TAG, so they aren't easily spotted anymore. I would recommend anyone buying a high priced watch from eBay to send it to the alleged manufacturer for service ASAP while it's in the PayPal grace period. This will wipe any fears you might have of authenticity. In TAG's case, post repair your watch gains a new warranty period of 1 year... now, let's see what they give us to buy tomorrow.

Anybody who purchases a high ticket item from eBay these days is naive, as the vast majority are counterfeit.

3. IWC no longer rework ETA movement already, that is old news of a few yrs back. ETA rework for them and they just assemble them!

4. the way U had it its like Patek also has quartz line, they sold those over $5k easy.

Last time they had Friends and Family sale choice was very limited. Hopefully this one will be better.
