Before buying your food, tell the cashier you would like to buy a $30 giftcard so "you can use it on this purchase." For us, they usually let you use your free burrito right there on the next purchase of your food. If not, then just use the gift card to purchase your food and come back next time to get the free one!

It is confirmed that the free burrito can be of any type and include guac, extra meat, etc.

Bought 12 of these last year during the holiday season. Just finished out the last of them this month. Time to start the year of burrito bowls allll over again!

I just tell myself that it's better than getting other fast food... right? RIGHT!?!?

Just tell them SPEC 1 or SPEC A, it takes off all items charged to the burrito itself (guac, extra meat). The registers are all the same.

Chipotle is miles ahead of most fast food chains as they focus on real, sustainable, and local ingredients. Their most impressive feat to me is the following excerpt taken from their website:

"100% of the sour cream we serve at Chipotle comes from pasture-raised cows."

This is quite amazing for an establishment of their caliber.

However, when I inquired about other ingredients, I was very disappointed to learn they actually use a small amount of trans fat in their tortillas, their bacon contains sodium nitrite, and soybean oil is used in many items. Soybean oil is far from being "sustainable" as the vast majority is GMO and heavily sprayed with pesticides. Why they would ruin good quality food with this stuff is beyond me.

I still must give the company credit for what they've done so far though. They are part of the reason why McDonald's has recently posted their first sales drop in 9 years.

I have two first world problems whenever I go to Chipotle:

1) They never seem to have enough fajitas ... I always seem to get the bottom of the barrel when I get my burrito.
2) They need to put some bottles of Tabasco sauce at the counter.

Sorry to break it to you, but it's likely worse calorie-wise compared to other fast food chains.

I believe it was $25 minimum in previous years. And the Chipotle I go to allows you to redeem the free one right away. I'll probably buy a couple since I go every couple of weeks.

Calorie counts are nearly useless. You're better off eating 1000 calories of quality food than 750 calories of junk.

in previous years yes, but not this year and the $30 min follows suit with the last time this ran

most instances will not allow for redemption on same visit

For years now I have been ordering a chicken bowl for my wife and asking them to put the meat to the side (foil, preferred, but they usually put it in a plastic cup). Also ask for an extra side of pico or whatever salsa you like. It's $6.63 here for a chicken burrito bowl. My wife just wants the veggies, so I use the chicken myself as a base with my own homemade burritos:

Two Mission wraps from Sam's Club (two packs of 8 are $4.23) - $0.27 each
1/4 cup dry white rice (Can get giant 20lb bag at Sams Club for like $10)(The cooked rice is about 1cup)
1Tbsp lime juice ($2 for 16oz bottle at Meijer)
1/2Tbsp lemon juice ($1.39 for 1L bottle at Aldi)
Half a can of black beans (59-cents at Aldi)
Head of lettuce (89-cents at Aldi)
Kraft Mexican cheese blend (the kind with Philadelphia creme cheese) (88-cents with coupons and sale at Meijer every so often.. stock up and freeze)
Nice wad of cilantro from garden\greenhouse ($0)

I cook the rice 15 minutes in my rice cooker, drain, add chopped cilantro and lime\lemon juices.
Microwave each wrap for 22 seconds in 1000-watt microwave
Scoop half the rice mix in each wrap,
Heat half a can of black beans in microwave for 45 seconds (I put the other half in the fridge with a plastic bag rubber-banded over it.. good for a week. You can use whole can if you want though)
Add half the amount of black beans to each burrito
Use chicken from Chipotle divided evenly between both burritos.
Spinkle desired amount of shredded Mexican cheese on each buritto
Add the side of salsa from Chipotle on each burrito (sometimes I chop up a tomato I have at the house to add to that)
Put desired lettuce amount in wrap
Carefully bunch the wrap with your hands to form the burrito shape and eat! Then eat the other one. Smilie

It's about a 20-minute process, but healthy and you'd swear Chipotle made the burritos you made at home. I figure with cost of ingredients it's around $8 for both me and my wife to eat great portions of Chipotle this way. I have been asked by employees about the chicken in the side thing. Just tell them 'portion control'.

You can also make a kind of spicy Mexican tomato soup with the chicken. I add it to one can of tomato source, a chopped tomato and 4 minutes in the microwave. I use saltine crackers in the soup. It was a big different at first, but has really grown on me.

We eat Chipotle at least twice a week.

Some of the Mission wraps contain crap like trans fat, and Kraft cheese isn't the greatest, so that version is not necessarily super healthy. Also the use of bottled juice instead of fresh squeezed is a factor.
