Starrett Micrometer deals at Amazon

Looks like a pretty nice price on that dial indicator & magnetic base. Too bad I can't justify the purchase! Rep.

Nice post, as a mechanic (both std and custom fab) as well as a gun smith, perfect for me. On the NOT so bright side, the Magnetic Base and Post Assembly, With 196MB1 price jumped from $131 (a steal!) to $220 while I was checking out, WTF . Same one, I saw $131, sold by Amazon, the $218 new price also sold by Amazon, can you see if you see the same thing?

Yeah, I knew that price wouldn't last long. There were three in stock, now only one. Amazon will usually adjust the price back up when there is action on an item. Gotta get in quick on most of their deals on good tools.

Man, the second i saw your post (within minutes) I was adding to cart (it said 3 available when I added), I should have just bought one at a time starting with that one first (the defnite no brainer). I already know the brand (obviously, they are the "snap-on of micrometers ) and no research was needed... I also know the typical prices, and with Amazon even if I DON'T, I order first, and then spend the 30 min after purchase to research given I have that much time to cancel, and worst case their returns rock(although I rarely need to return unless hey screwed up). In this case I couldn't have moved faster I don't think unless I just grabbed that one first and did one button checkout. Ah well, that is the way the cookie crumbles, I need to get my one button checkout setup to use the right card, or I would have used it :/.

My man crack=tools, cars, firearms (from when they were invented until now, I am a collector as well as a competitor), electronics (from PC parts to HT), and blades. I love seeing my man crack pop up on SD (except when someone posts a great deal on a ZR-1 corvette, great deal or not, WAY above my price range regardless, I die a little inside every time I see those posts, wishing I would have been more aggressive with my investments, like gold :/). If it weren't for SD I would not have been able to enjoy NEAR the man crack I have, thanks to SD being here and posters like you , repped.

I have no use for one, but they remind me of my grandfather's shop, V&M Tools in Inglewood California. I used to stock and take inventory, good memories.

I know that feel, bro. I was recently on ebay and saw a buy-it-now listing with several Starrett and Mitutoyo magnetic bases and all sorts of accessories for like $125. I didn't act on it at first, but after a few minutes it hit me what a ridiculously good deal that was. Somebody had already grabbed it, and I've been sick about it since.

I'm always looking for deals on measuring tools. Buying used is sometimes a crapshoot, especially on calipers and other stuff. I'll usually post the stuff that I find here that I think somebody else will be interested in. I know these deals will only appeal to a few, but with Amazon's volatile pricing changes there will only be a few sold at the discounted price anyway.

In the spirit of that, here is a another Starrett set I ran across. It would be great for somebody looking to tool up on the Metric side. Micrometer, caliper, indicator, combo square with all the attachments, etc. Nice set for $574.

Don't kick yourself on the gold. Seriously, commodities are routinely held as a speculative vehicle rather than as a true "investment," and if you've been aware of pricing for a good long while - I was actually paying attention since Reagan - while you would be doing better right now, timing is usual a fool's, or a quants, game. If you aren't familiar with it, look up "information asymmetry". You'll see why since the advent hedge funds and the institutionalization of information asymmetry, coupled to the growth of quants as well as the largely unenforced laws about insider trading, naked short selling, and even fraud - you may not have missed out on much. I won't say investing in a commodities is a always a bad idea, but I will say your chances of timing your sales prior to the big boys taking their profits are slim. I've picked up a crossbow as I have a small deer herd on my property that is just savaging my garden and fruit trees/bushes - and my daughter is looking foward to hunting with dad, it's her first year she can take the gun safety and shooting courses.

Thanks for making me feel better, and man that was deep, but it makes sense. Makes me feel better than the hindsight 20/20 rationalization I have been using . Hopefully u can get shoulder fixed, didn't cost me much to get into smithing, but I am a total amaeur at this point, doing little stuff, most of my time right now I am spending reading and learning. Assuming Americans are still allowed to own firearms when I retire in 20-30 years I am hoping I will know enough and have enough gear to be a god smith with enough clientele to support my family doing something I love.

SQ miles of corn fields with not an ear of corn to harvest ), guys have been coming back from week long trips on PRIVATE land where feeders had been with nothing to show for it :/. It is firearm deer season right now here in MO(ends on the 20th), but my daughter doesn't want to go, should have never shown her Bambi . I already bought my tags, but I don't even know if I will be able to go... so much to do, so little time.

Problem is the tear is small, and except for using it for upward pressure when it's rotated foward (hard to explain) the problems aren't that major. Except that when I shoot anything heavier than a .223 it slams the arm bone backwards into the socket, that stopped 30-06 target practice over a decade ago. I wouldn't sweat the guns too much, while I disagree with the NRA on certain things, they have done a masterful job of putting the anti-gun types on the defensive. The Democrats have mostly wised up, except for a few purely urban district ones.

I was putting in a new rain garden, and adding blueberries I'd gotten with an end of season special - and "bambi" walked right out from our Osage Orange plants, browsing between the thorns on it, and staring at me with the expression "How dare you block my access to the yummy garden you just planted." I proceeded to inform "bambi" a very calm, measured voice over about the next 3 minutes while I continued planting - "You stupid little ____, so you're the one who ate over 80 feet of thornless blackberry canes. You will end up in my freezer, I know exactly how you travel, you are going to be so dead...". We never watch Bambi nor anything with Elmer Fudd in our house - have watched little kids, I have a horrible suspicion that being seen as stupid is even worse than shooting that cute little deer that just ate what were going to be my blackberries (my kids compete for who gets the blackberries).

Sorry to hear about the shoulder, that really sucks, not being able to go shooting anything with any kind of kick isn't cool , and I know a few guys at work that have had shoulder surgery, and every single one of them said it SUCKS, takes a long time to recover from and lots of painful physical therapy, and doesn't guaranty a good as new shoulder when all is said and done. I know a couple of guys at the range that have switched shoulders due to shoulder injuries, and they said it was a real b*tch to adjust after shooting so long with the other, but it can be done . I never thought to askcabout dominance, but they were all shooting on the left side, and I am not sure if they were right or left eye dominant before hand and if that was why it was hard to switch (beside the other issues with being a left hand shooter, like brass in the face with a typical AR :/). Ever try switching? Or are you just moving on anyway, from what I hear archery (haven't done that since scout's) is more challenging and fun...

Or, if you like SG sports like clays or trap, etc. but don't do it anymore cos of your shoulder, I recently picked up a Blaser Luxus for clays, and the previous owner put this Bump Buster on it with an awesome KickEze pad(pic attached). Before this I shot with a Silver Pigeon or a semi-auto (gas) 11-87, and even with light loads (the 1100ish FPS loads, aka "old man loads" to my buddies ), even the gas semi-auto kicked twice as hard as this Blaser with 3.5 dram 1300 FPS Fed Gold Medal Sporting Clay loads. I tried my light loads in the Blaser just for the heck of it, and it felt like I had my 410 gauge tubes in. Good stuff, it improved my game since I started developing flinch and that is going away(thanks goodness, I did NOT want to have to migrate to a release trigger :/), and I am better at picking up true pairs now that I can get on that second bird so much faster.

I have swapped SG's while out on shoots with others in my different squads with different recoil reducers, and without exception, every one of them (including those with Gracoils or other custom recoil reducers installed) said that the Bump Buster was by far the best they had tried, I have seen quite a few more bump busters at comp shoots lately including a few of the guys I let try mine, I think Ken owes me a little kick back . Ken is awesome BTW...
