Think satellite would be better? Need something more than the 5gb cap.
Through what? Hughes? DirecTV? Dish? I think most satellite services have download caps also, just not 5 GB. You'll need to read the finer details before signing up. Be prepared for service interruptions and some bogged down slow speeds, from what I've read, but yeah it would get you around that 5 GB cap. Then you could use AT&T on a back up in case the satellite goes down.
I just got wireless internet from AT&T. I ordered the AT&T Elevate 4G. The device says that it has 4 bars and 4G service but my connections run blazing fast one minute then get Connection timed out errors the next.I have it hooked to my desktop via USB. Is there a way to connect it wireless to the desktop? Also my computer shows two other Network Connections: 1394 Net Adapter and Realtek family PCI fast ethernet. Everytime I uninstall when I reboot they reinstall. Could one of these somehow be used with this device? Please Help!! Got to get this straight before my 2 week buyer remorse passes.
I just had a similar problem (mine was different though, tablets worked fine on the AT&T Elevate, desktops and laptops wouldn't).
Thankfully this trick fixed it for me:
Go to the AT&T Mobile Elevate settings page (http://att.elevate) Advanced Settings --> WiFi and change the basic rate to "802.11 b/g compatibility". Apparently having it operate in with Wireless N doesn't work right.
What I am having trouble with now though is how to get USB Tethering working, it looks like it's trying to do a lot of the same dumb stuff it was doing before. Dreadfully slow page speeds, even while ping times are fine!!
