These memory prices are insane! I remember paying $100+ for just 4gb of ddr2.
Last week newegg had the gskill ares 4 x 8gb 1866 ram on sale for $120. Those sticks don't have the fancy heatspreaders, but are still spec'd slightly higher than 1600mhz. From reading a number of different reviews, actual practical gain is minimal going with the higher speed modules. In fact when you consider the premium price, it's a no brainer to go with the 1600/1866 sticks at best. Something to keep in mind about memory kits. If you want a total of say 16gb, but buy 2 2-modulesx4gb kits, that's not the same as buying 1 4-modulesX4gb kit. They are similar, but the xmp profile parameters will differ. Memory timings will be looser for the 4x4gb kit. This is one reason in particular why it's not recommended to mix modules, especially if they will be run at higher than normal speeds (1333/1600 mhz). Anything over this speed is considered overclocked and ymmv based on board/cpu you're using. |

Theoretically, 1.65V tends to have problems with the Sandy Bridge processors because they are not really meant to take more that about 1.57V for DRAM voltage.
However, I have the Corsair XMS3 which are rated at 1.65V, but I am running them @ 1.55V at a speed of 1600MHz. They have been working fine for about 6 months now. I just point out the 1.65V to let everyone know. Last edited by pthomas1991; 11-19-2012 at 07:25 AM.. |

$230 for the CPU and if you're lucky and talk the cashier into the $40 combo discount (it doesn't technically apply to the 3770k right now) you can get a mobo for a total steal, too. I was able to get a 3770k + MSI Z77A-GD65 today for $345 + tax after a $15 rebate. |

My Microcenter is 150 miles away. Bestbuy says they will price match on their site, which says not BF/CM weekend. I called them and they said not the week of Thanksgiving...I told the lady that is not what the site says...So no deal.
NCIX says they will match a retail store or web price. They have it for $219.99 so I price matched to 169.99 and used a $20 coupon for referring a friend and ended up with a price match to $170-$20=$150. Well, I got an email that the price match was declined and their best offer was $235! The 3570K is $219.99 to begin with! Looks like no one at BB or NCIX can read!!! I didn't post their rules, they did. |
