I think most airlines only release their tickets ~ 1yr into the future..So it might be too early to look into that. Alternatively, I might suggest signing up for one of the airline credit cards (possibly the BA 50k mile signup one) so you could possibly redeem those airline miles for near-free flights down there..Assuming you're in the US, the cheapest way (if not using miles) would probably be to get to miami and fly from there, or use a "budget" carrier like jet blue or frontier....While they might not get you directly to Brazil, they would get you into South America (Columbia, Venezuela, or Chile, for example)- you would probably save money by taking them into S.A., and buying a second RT using LAN or one of the South American carriers..


With regards to World Cup ticketing, FIFA is the official ticket seller for this event, and they have not released any info on ticket release dates yet. Check this site out for more info:

"On scheduling
The sale of FIFA World Cup tickets will begin after the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, probably towards the end of August 2013. "

1) Copa Airlines has a fairly new stop in Panama which makes it the best flight options from the west coast (i.e. LA) to different parts of brazil - instead of sitting in a plane to houston and then again for 11 hours from HOU to GRU (sao paulo) and then yet again to your destination - you'd have a one stop flight, with a breather halfway in panama. Huge if you can't stand being on a plane for too long (like me).

2) Keep an eye on Orbitz travel deals - a little over a year ago they had a really good deal for 25% off all South American flights - this combined with ITA Software Matrix (by google) http://matrix.itasoftware.com got me a round trip ticket to my home town (POA) for about $800 around the holidays - this pricing is unheard of especially for spending NYE down there.

3) The brazil tourist board has a website (available in english) with everything you could ever want to know about the world cup including host cities and info http://www.portal2014.org.br/en/

4) According to UOL tickets to the regular games should be around 50 bucks (wow) : use google translate if you don't have chrome (which will offer auto translate): http://copadomundo.uol.com.br/ingressos/ - looks like to get in the semi-final or final you need to buy a package (starts at 17k reais or $8300 bucks)

Don't forget to apply for a tourist visa unless you hold a Brazilian passport. The visa is usually good for 10 years. So it wouldn't hurt to take care of that in advance.

I'm sure most airlines will increase the number of flights to Brazil so I wouldn't worry about purchasing tix until a few months prior to your visit.

So you still need a visa even if you have an American passport? I didn't think you'll need one if you are only going there not for long
