Not the backup plus, but still a great deal!

The hard drive enclosed in the other one is the Seagate Barracuda ST3000DL001 [newegg.com] Hard drive while this one has a Seagate ST3000DM001 [newegg.com]. It also doesn't have the backup software the other one had. However, if you don't care about that, this one is a better deal in my opinion. Both are 7200 RPM

Update: Other drive had a 2 year warranty while this one has a 1 year.

Can you tell me about this? Is it all credit cards? is there something we need to do or does it occur automatically?
Some CCs have built in "Extended Warranty Protection". I think all AMEX has them, i think most Chase have them, lots of Citis and BOA has them... Google something like "amex extended warranty" or "Citi platinum Preferred Extended Warranty" or "Chase Extended Warranty". Though all of the extended warranty i see is that they only give you at most 1 extra yr of coverage when the mfg warranty runs out, up to a 5 yr mfg warranty (e.g. if the item has 3 yr mfg warranty, then the CC will cover the fourth yr; if the item has 6 yr warranty, the CC will not provide ANY additional coverage) . There are additional conditions on items that you have purchased separate warranty for , i dont know the exact detail of that since i never buy separate warranties anyway

I have successfully gotten extended warranty to work with AMEX, never tried other cards; my exp with AMEX extended warranty has been outstanding, you can claim it online, and though sometimes they ask for dead parts to be shipped to them, and sometimes they ask you to go get a quote from a local shop to fix the issue (i assume they will pay for the fix?), but most likely they just refund you the entire trans amt.

Some other benefits include 90 day Accidental damage protection (i stepped on my sunglasses 2 weeks into getting them from Ebay , using paypal paid with a AMEX, they covered it still); and Primary (or Secondary) coverage on rental cars that you pay entirely with your CC. oh , and price protection and Return protection also...

There are many benefits from CCs that you need to remember so you can take advantage of them when needed!

Damned fine deal. I was very bummed that I missed out on the earlier $99.99 deal, but this makes it all better bounce

Not sure which 40% Square Trade coupon you're referring to, but if this is the one where you had to go through FB i'm curious if this works. In the email i got from SquareTrade for this 40% offer it said in the fine print that Amazon along with some other retailers is excluded - even though from the wording i wasn't sure if this only means there is no discount if you buy SquareTrade warranty on/through Amazon or in general it not being valid, even if you go through SquareTrade direct. Good luck!

Fine Print from my SquareTrade Email:

Coupon is not valid for any eBay or Kindle products. Coupon Offer is not available on Amazon.com, QVC, Costco, Buy.com, Crutchfield, Abt Electronics, Vanns Inc, Woot.com, TigerDirect, CompUSA, circuitcity.com, Global computers, InfoTel and Purchasing Power, as well as government and businesse
Ah ok, yeah I knew I couldn't use it on eBay, I will find some other coupon hopefully anyway. Couldn't remember all the exclusions and I guess it was surprising to see Amazon on there although I am sure they do a brisk business with that site.

Amex especially. They charge retailers a premium for the privilege of offering YOU these services lol.

The Seagate Backup Plus 3TB is going to be $99 at Best Buy for Black Friday. Probably online as well as in store. It has extra software and MAC and PC drivers installed already so you don't have to pick one or the other for formatting which is nice.

I am going to get a Backup Plus Monday as a Premier Silver early access. I told my friends about this Amazon deal and they were all bummed lol. Glad I got my 2 Amazon $89 ones when I did, but your next best bet will be the Best Buy deal for only $10 more, don't fret!

If you mean BestBuy, look at page 14 on the link given above.

Or for a pic of a physically priced price, try this: http://bfads.net/Ad/Best-Buy-2012/Page4

wiki mentions an error check before removing from enclosure. Is this done froma program or a built in Windows function? Do I just right click the drive and select properties>tools>check for errors?

HUGE YMMV
my experience with staples:
1) placed an order through this link: http://www.staples.com/Seagate-Ex...TBV3000100
2) called into the CSR to price match and during the hold time the drive on amazon.com went OOS.
3) CSR put me on hold and came back saying that another customer had been approved for a price match a short while ago on the exact same item (indicating that they had some sort of tracker, those scum) and approved a price match for me @ 89.99 even though amazon had already been OOS.
4) I had a $25 off $ 75 coupon that was returned to me from a previous order and the CSR was willing to stack the coupon on top of the price match so basically I got this drive for $65 (~$69 after taxes)

I think the key is that they can see that a price match had been approved for another customer, so hopefully someone benefits off my rare success and keeps the ball rolling! Cheers.
I just remembered the 15% coupon that they have and did some calculations. If I were to order three drives through Staples with the price match and that coupon, it would save me $21 after taxes are factored in. I don't think I want to spend that much time placing the order over the phone and trying to go through the process of getting a price match that likely won't work anymore since the Amazon price has gone back up to $130.

wondering what's the difference between this Expansion vs. 'Backup Plus' model ?

Can't we still price match staple with Amazon to change from 139(staples) to 129(amazon) and use the 25 off 75 coupon to bring it down to 105...it's still not a bad deal!

Not many people has the coupon. So if you have one, you can try. But why waste the coupon on a deal that's not even as good as the original deal price after coupon.
