Not the backup plus, but still a great deal!

The hard drive enclosed in the other one is the Seagate Barracuda ST3000DL001 [newegg.com] Hard drive while this one has a Seagate ST3000DM001 [newegg.com]. It also doesn't have the backup software the other one had. However, if you don't care about that, this one is a better deal in my opinion. Both are 7200 RPM

Update: Other drive had a 2 year warranty while this one has a 1 year.

Any Denver SD'ers here?

Just received my backup plus but haven't opened it but am willing to swap out for the non-backup version as I just read the Synology NAS I'm looking at buying doesn't support this one but supports the one in OP ..grrr

Ya mine is running. I'm using the Seagate SeaTools for Windows and running the long test on it. I'll see how it goes before i rip out its guts.

I think this is the same drive that some say had head parking problems, but may have been cured with a firmware update.. Anyone have one that is noisy?

Just took mine apart . Do not have a cam to make a video of how to but it is pretty easy to do. Just put a flat blade or knife between the gap on the opposite side of the usb interface side. Then gradually unclip the plastic from the aluminum, u will probably need 2 flat objects to get it to work. then gradually unclip the clips along the length on both sides. Afterwards then remove the 4 black rubber on either side of the length of the drive. Unscrew the screws beneath those then finally remove the usb / power interface plugged into the drive. Voila u have ur drive. Mine was manufactured 07/2012
I followed your steps and took mine apart. Once the top shell is taken off, there are a couple metal clips along the outside of the metal housing near the ports. These can be spread slightly apart so you can more carefully pull the drive out if needed (just don't bend the ports/circuit board). I took some pics with my phone for a little bit of perspective:

My manufacture date is 09/2012. Want to know the best part? I used SeaTools to test the drive beforehand and it all came out fine, after about 12 hours :/. I used the warranty checker (link in the SeaTools app) on seagate.com to check the drives warranty - i believe it was January 2013. This is no surprise (it should be a year) however, the internal drive had a warranty out to 25-Dec-2015 LMAO. I should have never bought that squaretrade 2 year warranty Big Grin.

edit: I can also confirm again that the model is ST3000DM001 and no, the enclosure wasn't soldered to the drive shake head.

Meant "Expiration 30-Jan-2014". Nice catch though.
