Great price for this set, I snagged this one a few days ago from the TRU/ebay deal - this works out a few dollars cheaper than that was.

A lot of it comes down to how well your child handles spacial thinking. I think 4-5 is probably a good starting age, but our local lego store enforces a minimum age of 6 for any of their in-store building activities. |

At 4-5, they use the duplos to build actual thing (cars, houses, ect) and start to follow the directions in the normal kits. But the dexterity might not be there to build independently. At 6, you can pretty much hand my son one of the big sets and he will be content for several hours/days without any assistance. |

Still the best price around though.
I started playing with LEGO when I was 3/4, but I was one of those kids that was taking apart his radios and toys pretty much as soon as I understood what they were. While of course MANY other factors have come into play, I'm not surprised I ended up an engineer. I liked taking things apart and building them from an early age, and LEGO pretty much made the sky the limit. I got out of it when I started middle school, what with its girls and skateboards. I got back into it about 1-2 years ago, and for reference, I've spent a couple thousand collecting stuff for my 8'x4' pirate scene. Check out bricklink.org it is the largest collection of LEGO sellers in the world. You can buy anything, from sets to individual parts. I buy individual parts in bulk.
