Are they all CDMA or GSM ?

Appreciate the post but I'm not looking to downgrade, but rather upgrade to a model with more power ( ram, processor, camera, flash etc )

The Boost Mobile phone at Best Buy is a Galaxy S2. That's a significant upgrade.

Nexus 4 16GB for $350 and $30 timo data plan ....that's all you need...

if you wanna stick to virgin, there are basically three options during BF.

radio shack offering htc evo v for $99.
best buy selling optimus elite for $50
Target selling kyocera rise for only $30

dont let the price fools you. all phones are vastly superior than optimus V. all have same 1ghz processos (snapdragon S2 msm 8655 variant) that can play some of latest 3d games, and overall nice speed increase that you actually feel it is such a nice improvement from optimus V. I upgraded mine from optimus v to optimus elite so that's my hands on experience.

so yeah, all have almost same chip. almost same screen size and same ram. htc one v has higher resolution and hardwarewise it has much more finesse though. optimus elite and kyocera rise are basically same, except that kyocera rise has qwerty keyboard and ICS.

If I update to one of these phones, will I lose my $25/month unlimited data plan? Right now, VM no longer offers their $25/month plan, if I try activating one of these phones, will it automatically force me to pay $35/month? There was a thread on this a while back that showed that some people were able to switch back to their old $25 plan, at least on the optimus elite, but I think this no longer works.

for htc one v and kyocera rise, nope.

I bought optimus elite and switched to it on 14th october, and I was able to keep my $25 plan. I was hoping but not really expecting it because OFFICIALLY optimus elite is released after may 1st 2012 and therefore not eligible for $25 plan, but a few people reported success swapping the phone while keeping $25 plan during september and I also had success keeping that plan on mid october. and that was after people reports that switching back to $25 is no longer available (so what you read on that thread that it is no longer available was not true, at least at the time i swapped the phone)

will you able to keep $25 plan if you try it right now?....um I don't know. i only can report that it worked about 35 days ago. so YMMV and sorry that i can not you any definitive answers.
