Verizon eliminated contracts on all tablets a few months ago because of the introduction of their shared data plans. Unless they are doing contracts for one day only on tablets, it wouldnt make sense since the tablet price is only $10 a month. Sign you to a contract to pay $10 month?

Is this in-store only or will it also be online?

I called my local verizon store. They say they haven't received any such communication yet and cannot confirm the deal. I hope this deal is true for all states and that no contract is required.....

I called VZW's national support line and they confirmed that they are not doing contracts on tablets anymore. So the listed price for a tablet should be the same whether you add data right then or not.

Please, please, please, let's not have any slack-jawed enthusiasts mumbling en masse, "Spend another $100 for a Nexus 7/Kindle Fire/Nook Tablet..." Those are all terrific machines, but that jump from $100 to $200 is a big step for some of us - especially when a toddler will be the primary user. This is maybe the best tablet ever at the Ben Franklin mark, and well-supported in the mods community and in accessories. Compared to the knock off competition at this price point, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is princely.

Also, the rep said it should be available online as well as in B&M stores.

If so, would i have to get some kind of data and then cancel.it.later on?

The $99 price is a subsidized price with a 2-year contract. Otherwise you would pay the full retail price. (Info received from vzw corporate employee friend..)

If you have unlimited data, they try and sucker you in with limited plans. On the website, you cannot get his unless you change plans. Verizon, you suck.
