I'm going to wait until these cables are $2 or less before ordering a few. I don't own any iDevices and never will but it's good to have them in case you have someone over/in your car and needs a charge.
Didn't Apple develop these so people couldn't use knock off cables? Are companies already able to replicate them and get around that safeguard for Apple?
No. They developed them so the could have an all digital connection and a smaller port. It's a cable. There is no "safeguard" for Apple. That is a misleading word in itself. It's like your saying a cable not made by Foxconn (Apple doesn't make anything) is somehow not safe. I'm sure they would like to put a "profitguard" in their cables. It's a cable, just like an HDMI cable or any other cable. It is wires soldered to pins. That's all.
It really pisses me off when people make offhanded comments like this. That's how rumors get started that are completely false. Are you trying to make someone think twice about buying a cable the is probably made in the exact same factory and is identical to what they would buy directly from Apple?
Are you a troll? Are you an Apple employee? Are you just a loyal Apple sheep?
