Or if you run VM Workstation / ESX, the more RAM the better, depending on how many VMs, 32GB would be useful.

In addition to my different VMs that server different purposes, I also clone current VMs before making a major change (like installing an OS service pack, etc.) to make sure everything works, even MORE VMs.

If you are looking at VDE's(vitual desktops hosted on your server) for your home server / family, 32GB at this price no brainer. I am going to be converting to that given all of the additional features (mainly it is more seamless for them, and I can manage the farm, app deployment, security, and capabilities, much more easily as well). With VDEs, my family can use whatever (10" tab, etc.) and access a full blown quite powerful Windows desktop.

At this price, if you are thinking of doing any of this kind of stuff (or you are a heavy user of pro level video (Vegas/Premeire) or photo (GIMP/PS) apps, the more RAM the better for quicker undos and redos, multiple side by sides, etc.
