Dang! I missed out. I didn't even think it would make FP. I was just posting cause I was perusing Newegg and thought it was a good price for the hardware.
I was actually eyeing the Biostar Motherboard/integrated cpu combo, with free 8GB ram for $60. But, it didn't include free ram at the time (Newegg has since re-included it). Then I saw jbg22003's post for the CPU, for $55. I was still debating ... "Would both deals come out to be about the same cost?" I guess I should have taken inventory of what components I actually have lying around. Seems like I could have done the Foxconn deal. Seems like that would have been the better deal. In addition, I guess I should have considered, what components do I want to spend more money on? CPU for the Foxconn deal? Or, case for the Biostar deal? In hindsight, I guess I would have preferred to spend more money for a good cpu. Last edited by Samwise Gamgee; 11-20-2012 at 11:55 PM.. |

Maybe pick up a Celeron G530 now, wait for good price later on for the Ivy Bridge you really want. Amazon: It's still $59.99 with free Prime shipping (FSSS as well? - I'd have to sign-out...)Link [amazon.com] Choose Amazon as seller. Update: Free Super Saver Shipping at Amazon Last edited by K6-2; 11-21-2012 at 01:20 AM.. |

I know this is a bit OT but this question is related. I want to upgrade my mothers computer and am looking for a cheap motherboard, memory and a chip with onboard graphics. Her PC was built about 4 or 5 years ago and she pretty much uses it for surfing and some word processing. It loads very slowly so I thought I would upgrade for her. Is there a good barebones combo around that's a really good deal? I'd like to spend less than $150 for everything. Thanks

I tempted between this and the Biostar deal. With the Biostar deal, I would need to get a case for about $30+ more. The free 8GB would be nice. I already have HD. With this deal, I would need to get a CPU for about $30+ more. I already have RAM; albeit 2GB. I hate though that I would pay tax through Amazon. Hmm, What to do? ... For my situation, the total price will come out to be about the same for both deals. If I had to put in more money for components, it seems like I should go for the CPU, instead of a case. Can confirm that they will send you an updated BIOS chip that will allow the use of Ivy Bridge processors. Just called and spoke to a representative and they are sending one out to me. Rep also stated that newer units may ship with the update already flashed.
