Hmm, this is 2TB for $89. Should I go for this or one of the 3TB models on BF. 3TB Seagare for $99 or 3TB WD for $119. USB 3.0 means nothing to me as this with be plugged into my AirPort Extreme router as a backup drive.

Is the premium worth it for WD over Seagate? I have seen a lot of poor reviews for Seagate.

If you're planning on plugging it into a router, I'd double check and make sure that the Seagate will work. I don't know which model you're looking at, but the 3TB Goflex I have isn't recognized when I plug it into my Belkin N600. I did some investigating online and it sounds like most Seagate drives don't work for that purpose. My 1TB WD Elements on the other hand gets recognized right away and I play my music off of that on my laptop, tablet, and Android phone.

Edit to clarify: Looks like the problem is that my drive is the GoFlex Desk version. Seems like most other Seagate drives will work.

I'm waiting for the 3TB Seagate on BF at BBY. Gonna use the internal drives and sell off the enclosures, since I'm planning on using them in my FlexRAID HTPC.

I also need a few laptop drives, so the 1TB Seagate portable drives at BBY for $70 have me interested as well.

UPDATE: FWIW Amazon also has a cheaper Squaretrade 2-yr warranty for $7.99 (vs. Newegg 2 yr protection plan at $17.99)

Fun fact. When I looked this up on Amazon, I realized that it's the same drive I've been using for 2 years. I would have thought it would have been a newer model number by now. But on November 30, 2010 I paid $69.99 via a lightning deal on Amazon. So I guess prices still have a ways to go post-flood.

I have purchased 5 of these, from Nov 2010 (same lightning deal) and Nov 2011 (inflated post-flood $). They still work great.

You shitting me guys? A Seagate 3TB Expansion USB 3.0 was $90 on Amazon exactly two days ago. Of course, if you still think Seagate is that much worse than WD (and Hitachi still makes "Deathstars") then by all means, please enjoy your overpriced hard drive.
