seems like a great price, does anyone know if RCA does in-home service/repair?

That would be my only concern, otherwise seems like a great price without being a doorbuster.

i know others have a doorbuster like bestbuy/kmart/sears which are at great prices, but online this seems to be a great price

Yes, they do, you have to deal with ON Corp. because RCA doesn't make that TV.

I purchase the previous generation of this TV in last year's Chase freedom points deal, model number is 46LA45RQ. I have to say the picture quality was really good. After 10 months, we noticed a 3-4" wide bar on the right hand side of the TV, called ON Corp, as soon as I described the issue, the guy on the phone told me it's a known issue... What???
They sent a guy to check first and ordered a new TV panel, a few weeks later, the same technician came (BTW, he is great, very friendly and professional) and replaced the panel in my home. You know what, the new panel has a dead line right in the middle of the screen too!!! They told me I will get a new TV for replacement.
Last Friday, got a call from Bestbuy Corporate office, gave me a confirmation number, went to store and got a LG 47" instead (paid the difference to upgrade)

Not sure this newer model has fixed this issue or not.

I had one, same model number. It lasted 8 months and the panel went out. Call the service number and the tech was out the next day. He said it was a bad panel but there was no replacement parts and would be replaced. I called RCA everyday for three weeks only to get a full mail box. I took it back to Bestbuy and The Geek Squad sent it off and said its wasn't repairable. I got store credit and bought a Samaung.
RCA is not what it use to be. Good luck.

Do you think me getting this with a 3yr warranty with square trade (using 40% bf code) would be smart?

I got the 39" RCA from Walmart for $230 earlier this year.
It is hanging in my master bedroom now and I am really happy with it. The sound is okay but the picture is pretty nice and it works great.

I got this TV last year and it has been working great. Good TV for what I paid which is less than it is currently (think I payed around $300)
