Thread Details

I scored a 60" Vizio at Sams Club yesterday. My Dad wanted one as well, but I was 10th in line he was 11th. The TV fits in the space I have for it and generally speaking I think I'm going to be happy with it. Vizio 60" ($700)

However, I'm also interested in the Panasonic 55" IPS LED 3D TV that Best Buy has on sale model: Model: TC-L55ET5 ($900)

Also the cNet reviews of the 60" Sharp LED TV indicate the picture quality on the Sharp is a little bit better than the Vizio. Model # on the Sharp: LC-60LE600U ($1000)

Assuming that picture quality is the most important feature what is anyone's take on the different TV's? Is the picture quality on the sharp $300 better than the Vizio? Is the picture quality on the Panasonic $200 better than the 5" larger vizio?

Needless to say I'm not confident of our ability to land a deal on a Vizio on Amazon.

Have you considered the Samsung $800 UN55EH6000? I have an ongoing thread on avsforums regarding a comparison between the Panasonic and Samsung and everyone points towards the Samsung when it comes to picture quality.

I myself visited BestBuy this weekend and was initially going in for the Panasonic but was completely let down when it came to blacks and contrast ratio.

If you read the cNet reviews on the 60" Vizio they had some not so nice things to say about the Samsung 6000 series. The way I read it the Vizio and the Sharp are both better pictures than the samsung 6000. Almost any other Samsung and that would be different.

Seconded on the Samsung. Didn't look too hot in Costco and CNET slammed the picture quality of the entire EH6000 series and similar variants. Samsung really took a step back this year.

IPS depends on usage. I've heard it's a no-go for gaming or anything with fast motion.

lol yea the samsung EH series was slammed but after hearing feedback on this thread AVSFORUM [avsforum.com], everyone recommended the samsung over the panasonic.

I wanted to see myself and find out which one was nicer, looking at both panels at my local bestbuy and clearly the winner was the Samsung.

I'd take either the Sharp or the Vizio over the Samsung.

That actually says a lot about the Panasonic. Sounds like the Vizio and Sharp are both better than the Panasonic. Glad I didn't order the Panasonic then. I usually like Samsung, but with any brand you more or less want to stay away from their lowest priced TV. There is a reason they're at that price.

Until you realize that their warranty support is horrible.

I would argue Samsung > all the rest depending on which model you're getting. What I'm talking about though is in the budget range and Samsung has no good budget TVs. LG doesn't seem to have any good budget ones either.

A 65 inch tv has approx 18% more viewing area than a 60 inch tv when used in 16:9 mode.

The diagonal is 8.33% more on a 65 inch tv.

Then again, 20% viewing area is along the vertical and horizontal taken together.

No way. My jaw dropped when I read this. You took home the big TV and let your Dad go home empty-handed?
