I know this is a noob question, and I've researched it before, but from a slickdeals perspective, how do I decide on a first guitar? Preferably, I like an acoustic, and I'm left handed (It takes my brain a lot more effort to keep a beat with my right hand than my left), and I know Linux said that some models can be restrung, so, would this be a good choice? What should I be looking for? Thanks for any help.

Ideally, you need a buddy who's a decent guitar player, at least enough to know a good guitar tone from a bad one. Then you hit Craigslist and shop with that buddy and find a good $100 guitar. No solid top necessary. Now this is important. AFTER YOU FIND YOURSELF SPENDING MEANINGFUL TIME LEARNING TO PLAY THE GUITAR BEYOND FIRST 8 MEASURES OF "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN" and "SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT," you'll know enough about acoustic guitars to know what to buy.

Aside from the part about Stairway and Nirvana, I'd have to agree.

Getting a beginner's guitar will let you know if you have the drive to spend the time to learn how to play without killing your wallet when you find out 3 months later you have no interest in continuing to play.

It is also possible to get a solid top acoustic for $100~ as well. I'm still rocking out with the Washburn ds6 that was popular on SD over a year ago every now and then.

Narrow neck? I can't find any info on the stock neck, but lots of necks on these grand auditorium type guitars are small.

I agree with the other posts. Also, if you want to restring a guitar for left hand, you definitely do NOT want a cutaway. Also, a smaller folk size body is better for beginners.

Craigslist is a good way to go, but since you're looking for a lefty, you might also be able to pick one up in a pawn shop or music store for a lowball offer if they have one that's been around a while. Definitely take a friend or relative who knows at least a little bit. You probably want to start with a small or medium-sized folk guitar, rather than a classical guitar, jumbo, or some more unique style.. Personally, I would say to get a $200-400 guitar if you can afford it - at least a solid wood top. No reason to get a plywood top unless you plan on destroying it. If you keep it or sell it, you're going to want to have some value. Also, if you are looking for quality, bone and metal are often better than plastic parts if possible. And be aware of the difference between a rosewood fretboard and rosewood tape on the fretboard.

Just my opinion, but I think if you buy a used guitar or a well-priced new one and don't screw it up, you can either keep playing it or sell it for nearly what you paid as you get better and acquire another guitar or two. If you buy a cheap piece of trash it will only be good for cluttering up your storage space, throwing in the garbage, or giving away to a child when you are finished with it.
