While Im about saving a buck, I worked for minimum wage once and always dreamed about healthcare. Not going to support some company who stops hiring in response to having to pay out benefits.

The federal government trying to shore up our completely broken healthcare system is not "activism", it's the long overdue action that is needed to keep middle and lower income people from being financially annihilated every time they have a medical issue. If employers need to pass on a higher cost to their end users due to increased cost of labor, and remember that we are talking about fractions of the net cost of the product here, then they are free to do so. The market will either pay it, or not pay it. If the whole market has to face increased costs, which they would in the mind of the right wing of this country, then prices for all products will rise. If that is in fact the case, then would not all workers be affected and thus also have increased cash flow to spend on those products by way of not spending excessive amounts on healthcare? Hmmmmmm? If companies cannot make a satisfactory profit after paying their employees a living wage, then they do not have a viable business, period. Net US corporate profits last quarter were $1.65T, having doubled (yes, 100% growth) since Q1 2004, so if you cry poor on behalf of the impoverished major corporate entities of America, I am going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh. There is more to economics than the sticker price, chum, and there is more to this issue than crybaby Fox News-watching executives throwing public temper tantrums. Also, support your locally-owned restaurants. |
