A few thoughts to add after spending many hours in stores staring at tv's the past week or so... For me picture clarity is of highest importance. Nothing I've seen can compete with the best Samsungs for picture clarity. Not all Samsungs mind you, they have their average models too, but certain ones are a notch above everything else around them, at least in store viewing. I've literally spent hours going back and forth between everything in Sams Club, Costco, Best Buy, and Sears. I specifically watch the text on the loops they play to look for crispness in the lettering, the lower quality panels show a lot more pixelation in the text. As for the 60" Vizio that everyone is so hopped up about, I was all excited too and ready to go sit at Sams last sunday for the preview event unit I actually got in front of one. That model, and two other 55" Vizio sets and the 65" that I looked at quite a bit, are on the low end of picture quality out of everything I looked at. If you want a huge smart led tv for cheap, go for the 60" at under $700. The Samsung EH series has a markedly better picture than that set, as do many others. The Samsung ES6100 and ES6150 are another step up, and those are as good as anything I see from other manufacturers in LED sets. Some plasmas rival the picture clarity, but for me the reflections and glare I would get rule them out completely. If you want plasma and big, the 64" Samsung at Costco for $1399 looks fantastic imo.... Back to LED, the Samsung ES7150 at Costco has the best picture clarity there, and I believe the best of any of the stores I've been too. Best Buy here has an 8000 series on display also that should be just as good but out of my price range so didn't spend any time on it. Long story short.... I'm looking anywhere from ~$800-$1200, want smart features, don't care much about 3d. I've settled on the Samsung UN55ES6100 from Best Buy or 6150 from Costco. Might have bought at Costco tonight if it weren't for the tax issue, that pisses me off.... Costco does double the warranty to two years, but the 6150 has a slightly lower contrast ratio, so its really a toss-up. I'm planning to try and get Best Buy down to $999 on the 6100, or bundle a few Blue-Rays and a wifi keyboard at the current $1099, doesn't hurt to try... ![]() Hope that helps someone.
